Didn't like the factory digi cam, and I didn't want to buy a black pm2.

So I dyed the scales! Royal blue rit powder dye. The scales sat for roughly 6 minutes total. I'm happy with it, came out exactly the way I wanted.

Thanks guys! I was surprised with the good results. I'd read some horror stories about rit dye jobs simply not working right. One scale is just a tad bit lighter than the other one, but not enough for me to go back and redo the dye, risking making it all too dark.

I saw some pics of a red dyed digicam a little while back, and I've wanted to try blue ever since.

That looks good. I've seen the red dye jobs and I did that to my own PM2 and it came out reasonably well. Your blue came out well and your photo shows it well. I've had a hard time getting a good photo of my red scales.

Those look awesome! Ive been comtemplating trying purple on my camo pm2, the red looked good and now seeing the blue, I think it would work.

They look great; between my dozen or so sprint run Militarys and PMs I've got at least three I really dislike the color of, but never considered trying to just dye them. Think I'm going to try to dye my Earth Brown scales tonight.

From what I've read, and from my experiences here, the digicam seems to take dye pretty easily. The two things to remember are:
1) you can only go darker than the existing color
2) whatever the original color is, it will effect the end color, there's going to be a slight mix of colors.

If you hold my para in the right light, the light part of the scale has a very slight green hue to it. The original digicam has some olive green undertones, I think the blue dye brought them out.

I'm considering putting it in the bath one more time, the pics actually bring out the blue a little better than real life. In real life, the scales aren't quite as bright blue as they look in person. I'm wanting to maybe darken the blue just a little bit.

Wow that looks cool as hell! I know what I'll be doing to my Para 2 now...

See the difference in the scales?

I can't decide if I need to go darker or not.

The lanyards going to change too. It was an experiment, I normally carry in my front right pocket with no lanyard, this one is getting a deep carry clip and is going to stay in my right hip pocket so I'll need a lanyard.

Going to make a nicer lanyard with gray paracord (to enhance the blue of the scales) and maybe a stonewashed bead. Pimping on a budget!

Did you take the whole knife apart and dye the G-10 without any parts or did you just dip the whole thing? Did you heat the dye? I've tried dying G-10 and FRN before using Rit powder and for some reason I can't get it to take.

I'd like a more detailed description of this too, I really want to try this out myself, dark blue G-10 looks cool as all living hell.

I disassembled the entire knife and dyed the scales only. I heated the die, and mixed it with vinegar per the rit instructions. I think I am going to do a second die step, to get the scales a little bit darker and more even, I'd be happy to do step-by-step instructions and pictures?
