I need some help!! I am ready to buy a digital camera. Whats important to me is Quality and the Zoom Power. So far I am looking at buying a Kodak 4900 direct from them for $299 and then buying the $70 docking station for it. It has 4.0 Mp and X6 zoom. Anyone have any other suggestions?? I am ready to buy over the next day or so. My max is about $400 Thanks

Check on getting a camera with 'macro' capabilities so you can really get close pixs of parts of your knives. I have a Nikon Coolpix 2500 (really small but takes pretty good pixs) but it doesn't have a macro mode so the closest I can get to a knife subject, while still in focus, is about 12". Good luck with your picture taking!

The Kodak 4900 is an excellent digital camera, and the docking-station makes downloading pictures to your computer very simple.

I think thats what I am going to go for. I am comparision shoping for one now. :)

A 4MP camera sounds nice.

But, don't forget that you need a good printer and high quality ink/photo paper to get decent prints out of it.

I have an older 2MP camera. I bought a 128 meg flash card for it, and my biggest limit is the batteries, as it will hold a LOT of pictures.

I find that I don't like taking pictures in the highest quality. I really don't print very often, and 95% of the pictures I take stay on the computer. Usually, the pics I take are 1024x768, and I still end up cutting them down with a photo editor.

A 4MP picture is BIG. According to here, that camera has a maximum resolution of 2448x1632 pixels.

My monitor can only do 1600x1200.

High quality is nice, but to me, 1024x768 on my computer and the web is enough.

That seems like a good deal for a decent camera. Don't forget about the printer in your budget, though. :)

PS - If the docking station is compatible with other Kodak's - you might be able to find it cheaper on Ebay or from a merchant like buy.com.

Ok, I already bought the Kodak 4900 and the docking station. Now I am hunting down a memory card. My question is, do you guys know if I can buy any flash card?? Or should I search out just for the Kodak photo card?? I would like to get 256MB Thanks:)

LEXAR PROFESSIONAL 24X 256MB card.

I did a bunch of research and there is a speed and price difference between the pro-level and consumer level of flash card.

So if your camera is capable of high-resolution capture, go with the LEXAR PROFESSIONAL line.

Also, stay away from the 1GB microdrives, I hear they are slow, expensive and fragile. The 1GB flash cards are coming around now and you might see microdrives selling for cheap.

I picked up 4 16Mb cards, for 10 each... HP brand, they retail about 50 each up here...

they work for me on my 2.1Mb Kodak DX3500... run out of batt before I run out of cards, with an 8Mb internal. total space? 72Mb worth of pics...

soon buying a photodock, so I can charge up my 3 batts I have dead already...

UPS guy just dropped off the camera and it is SWEET!!! I will post a few test pics in a few. No more scanning knives:D

Quick Test, I am sure it will take me the rest of the day to master this gadget:)

Hmm.. it looks like there is either something wrong with your camera, or something wrong with your collection.

Please immediately send both to me so that I can find out for sure.

Just kidding :D

Nice pic. Looks like you know how to work the camera.

You should see how many knife pics I have on my computer. I look back and say, yeah, I remember that knife. I traded it for _____. Man, that was so stupid. I wish I had another one of those.

Have fun. :)

Congrats! Nothing like getting new toys. I recently grabbed the Canon Powershot G2, i love it. It is a perfect compliment to my old 35mm Olympus OM-1 which is comin up on 30 years old now (older than me). The G2 is also a 4 megapixel camera. If yours has similar image quality as mine, you can easily do blow-ups to 8x10, 11x14 look pretty damn good too. Here is a couple of sites that you might be interested in now that you own a nice new camera, www.photosig.com & www.photo.net Your sure to get some good advice on taking great pics. At photosig, you can even look at pics taken by your exact camera by other photographers. Hope this helps.

I will try a few before I crash tonight:)

Lets see how these turned out. I am still using all the default settings, now I need to go in and learn how to manually adjust for best picture.

Sorry I took so long to reply, For some reason I never got a notification of a reply. To be honest, I bought that shotgun and stock at the Richmond gun and knife show this month and haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet. Soon hopefully, however I used to have a gun very similar, actually damn near the same (It got stolen:( ) The recoil is not to bad, I wouldn't want to go for a full day of Skeet shooting with it though:D

Have yourself a few shots of that Jack Daniel's - You done good in the camera choice - fantastic pictures! Looks like your're ready for anything that comes through the door! Those Delta Z's are lookin' fine. What's that old saying? 2 in the hand are worth more than 5 in the 'bush'?
