This is not directly related to bladesmithing
but it will give me the opportunity to share
bladesmithing tech. and equipment with others
on this forum.
I'm computer illiterate when it comes to
getting pictures on this forum. If you can
help I would certainly appreaciate it.
It needs to be fairly simple so even I can do it. THANKS

Go
Just go to the faq at the beginning of the bladeforums entry. They tell you how to do it there. Another way is to edit a post with a pic. Copy the verbage and paste it in your post changing the url to your site and the pic location. You can test this in the tech forum the delete it after you get it working
and have it copied . Then just post new topic and paste it in. Good luck

Looks like it works! I'll be putting in pictures corresponding to making of blades and how they are treated.

Tom,
This is what I was originally hoping I could do. I still do because if it were not for my wife it wouldn't have happened the way it did. If there were some way to put the pictures directly on our replies, and if anybody has any ideas I feel it would be beneficial to the forum.

Go and Tom My point here is not to post a picture. Please go to the picture I posted , click edit , You will see the text that I used to put the pic on direct to your site.
hilite the line of text right click and copy . Then post new topic or reply, put your cursor into the white box at the bottom . Click right again. then paste the text into the box. Now change the text to your site with direction to the pic..

Shoot this is hard.

This is one of those things that's so simple it's hard to explain, and we're getting all kinds of misunderstandings.... I know Tom understands UBB code because he's been posting pictures -- what he's asking is why can't he upload a picture to this website instead of putting it on his own website and linking to it.

The reason is that would tax the resources of Bladeforums -- not just the hard drive space to store the pics, more importantly the bandwidth. When you link to a picture on another website that doesn't use Bladeforums bandwidth; the pic is transmitted from that website to the viewer's computer without passing through the Bladeforums server. Just one pic would multiply the bandwidth of a thread, and if we all posted pics that way (and I bet we all would if we could) Bladeforums would cost at least three times as much to keep going as it does now, which is already too much.

Spark has put pics on the Bladeforums server to help members who are computer weenies and don't know how to post them on their own sites, but that's a last resort. Those of us who aren't incurable weenies should upload any pics we want to post to our own websites -- get a free site at Geocities if you run out of hard drive space or your ISP doesn't give you any for free. Don't be afraid to try it; it's easy even for people who don't know a lot about computers. Geocities has set up their system to make it easy for you and they'll help you figure it out if necessary.

You're right, it is easy, once you know what the steps are. I appreciate your help immensely. Thank you.
