Hey, guys - I'm the one who posted the 'spa treatment review' thread yesterday. Here's my problem - I recently got a PM3 and love it - so I kind of wanna sell the sebbie as I need money. But.... due to the weak detent in the PM3 - it comes out of my pocket open sometimes (without me realizing it) then I go to open it and I cut myself (same spot on ring finger numerous times. I also got a spyderco dice and love it. But... the tip recently bent for no good reason - and I had to bend it back (required almost NO pressure to do so). Not happy about that..
So - basically - should I keep the sebenza (which I've never had a single problem with) or sell it and keep 2 knives that I love, but both have given me problems...
What would you guys do? (Keeping in mind that I could really use the $ from selling the sebbie)

You will regret selling the sebenza so keep it it. Also I've been in the same place you are, do I sell my one very expensive knife or a few not so expensive ones I'm glad I sold my not so expensive ones because they are easer to get back later. So in all Do Not sell the sebenza! You will regret it plus you're other knives have problems so sell them.

Well I wouldn't want to pass on a problem, but that's what I was thinking... a year and a half with no problems. Kind of a no brainer...
Thanks for the reply!
Guess it goes in the pocket tomorrow (gotta get the first scuff on it) lol.

I'd be sending those Spyders in to get looked at. I don't think they'd want you walking around with a knife that opens in pocket. I know I wouldn't carry a knife that did that to me even once. Heck, I've gotten rid of knives because they seemed like they might open up in my pocket. That's just me though.

At the end of the day I want to carry a knife that's pretty boring in the sense that it's reliable and dependable. I want to know exactly what to expect when using my knife or reaching into my pocket. Sounds like that's what you have in the Sebenza. It's fun to play with new and exciting knives, but in the long run I think you're better served with the knife that just gets the job done without requiring a lot of thought.

You know the answer. Even if you are not short of money, it is not wise to keep knives that will open accidentally and cut you.

As for the sebenza, if you are thinking about selling it, then it means it is not attractive enough to you. I sold a flawless large 21 recently for cheap, which I do not regret.

If I were you, I would get rid of all three knives and try out some other knives.

I would have to echo others here. Inexpensive knives seem to always be easier to find and replace than the more expensive ones. Hold that sebenza. I sold a zt0560 that Never really Carried and have found myself regretting the sale more and more as the months go by.

Keeping it!
(The PM3 opens a little on the way out of my pocket - not in it, but still....) you're right

I'd get rid of the problem children before I sold the reliable one, no matter the brands involved.

You can buy a pile of nice knives for the price of one trip to the ER , lost work time , etc.

So it doesn't make sense to ever carry an unsafe knife . Get repaired , sell as needing repair , mod into a " fixed blade" or just trash it . I've been cut deep - no fun .

Good choice on keeping it. Re buying stuff gets expensive and doesnt really make sense. As for the Spydies i would send them in, or if you dont want to do that, you could still sell them. Just be extremely clear about their problems. Alot of us would still buy them for the right price, or send them into spyderco ourselves.

I regret selling very few of what I've bought. I tried to force myself into liking the sebenza. I do not regret selling it, and know now that CRK just aren't for me.

You can't force love. My only real regret is the Strider SnG.

Id sell all three and find something you are completely happy with. But a tip that bends with little to no effort should be warranty worthy. The pm3 detent might be able to be increased with a small increase in lockbar pressure. Its up to you if its a knife you like enough to experiment with. If you arent comfortable trying to dial in the detent many here could help you out. Including me. I only ask you pay the shipping. It would be a day and on its way back.

Just figured out my 'weak detent problem' with my PM3 - the spydie hole was catching on my Gerber EAB that is always in my coin pocket! (Still keeping the sebbie though)

I guess it depends on how badly you need money.

Personally, I could never love a knife I've had serious problems with. Accidental opening in the pocket or easy blade bending would be fatal flaws in my view.

I've carried a small sebenza daily since 2004 and have had zero problems with it at all. 13 years if flawless service speaks volumes.

Personally, I'd keep the sebenza and find another way to resolve the cash issues.
