Hey...what does HI sell specifically in Sandalwood?

Uwinv the sandalwood in scale form might not be too bad but for solid handles for the stick tang khuks they're not much good.
There were a few khuks that came with sandalwood handles some while back and, I think it was, most of them cracked in some way or another, matter of severity.
IIRC Rusty has a khuk that Pala replaced the handle on because the sandalwood cracked on it. Correct me if I'm wrong little bro.
I had one sandalwood handled khuk here that I think I repaired, might have replaced it though, been too long ago and you know how my damned memory is.
Too me they are as fragile as the bone handles have been the last while and not for what I would want on anything except a martial arts khuk. Everyone's MMV though, just stating what I recall.

Well, I'm using the mineral oil method suggested by Yvsa and it's working well. Will take a few days though to get the handle completely free.

Having removed a great deal of the rouge it appears that the carved slabs are not standard sandalwood but are in fact the raktha chandan, 2 beautiful slabs I might add. Still has a faint fragrance though.
