Dimples in blade steel

Hello,

I'm just getting started on my path to being a full-blown knifeknut. Recently picked up a Kizer Roach, and I love this thing! However, I couldn't help but notice what appears to be dimples in the blade steel. Aesthetically, it doesn't really bother me, but it's the first time I've ever seen this on a blade. Then again, I'm still a fledgling knife addict and my collection is quite small. Maybe this is common? Anyway, just wanted to know if it's anything to worry about in terms of steel composition or material integrity.

Pic can be found at the link below. Any input is appreciated!

Just imperfections in the finish, it's a production knife, they aren't all going to come out perfect.

Is that a coated or blasted blade? Kinda hard to tell from that pic...

It's whatever coating they used. That wouldn't happen on steel, that has been shaped and ground down.

It's a coating. I think that `br4dz- is on the right track. If I run my finger over the spots, it feels like they are raised a bit higher than the rest of the blade.

So just an imperfection in the finish of the coating.

It's gonna look a lot less "perfect" once you get a few miles on it!

Nothing that is "production" is perfect, even on small batch or more "custom" items there will be small flaws if you look hard enough.

Very true! There's nothing like a few battle scars and some wear & tear to give a knife some character!

Sometimes they test hardness and leave a mark like that, but that is always up on the flats near the handle. I wouldn't worry too much about that coating dimple.

Who is "they"? I only know of one production maker that does that.

Either way, the coating is what you're experiencing, OP. The knife is fine, enjoy it:thumbup:
