Diomedes Industries has a new Dangler Release Buckle - Thoughts?

I have been shopping for a new way to skin a cat. I like my Chicago Screw release - but have NEVER been happy with the fact that it leaves the D-Ring behind and that I need another row of stitching.

So - after MUCH searching - I have found this:

This allows for the full dangler to be removed and the sheath to have a clean, designed, belt carry for the person who likes the option. I can get this in Gold, Brushed Nickle, and Silver.

I tested this a couple of ways. I clamped with a look of leather, in my vise and grabbed ahold of it with another look of leather and some vice grips. I pulled. I reefed. I yanked. Then I went for broke, knelt down, and simply held my weight with the buckle. That is 250 pounds of weight suspended from this. Frankly I think the stitching at the base of the belt loop would fail before this buckle would.

I then wore it in the field for a few weekends - got poured on - and used the shit out of my knife. The pictures above are AFTER all this testing!

I also have a few others that are tooless but 1/2 inch in design. This would be perfect for those with smaller sheaths.

I will be adding this to my line at no additional cost to the end user.

Here are some more pics - what do you think?

This allows for a SAK small blade, or any other small blade to take off this dangler in the field - put the screw back in, and store it in your pack. I will also be doing the Chicago Screw to retain strength and versatility for my sheath systems. I listed to those on this board - any words?

Looks like a good solution! I like that you can remove the dangler without leaving the metal there. Nice job on finding and executing those parts.

I like that nice and clean looking, wonder if it would serve the same as a permanent rifle sling?
Thanks

That looks great. I like how all you need is a flat head screwdriver to remove it.

Nice bit of lateral thinking that. Don't take this as being cheeky but is there a version of that shackle with a bit on the end like this one?:

Just thinking it might be easier to use, no need for tools etc? How about this:

I spent a few hours looking for similar shackles for a project I wanted to do a while ago. Hope this helps mate. You've already got a great project good to see you're pushing it forward.

Royal - the Shackle types are HUGE in size - and the ones that fit sheaths are 1/2 in size. Trust me - I SEARCHED for shackles that would work - I could not find any that fit my criterion.

However, if you can get specs on that top Shackle - let me know. I traced it back - and it looks like it is made for the outrigging of a boat - which fits with what I was finding.

Nice find, TF. It's a shame that it is rectangular, rather than D-shaped, though. The square corners look like they would inhibit the sheath moving with one's leg while walking.

Actually Flix, it is hard to explain - but if you leave enough loop on the bottom, like I have in the picture - it flexes and moves just fine.

I would say it has the same range of motion as the D ring.

I have D-Ring shackles - but they are only fitting 3/4 inches. I will have to post pics of it as soon as I can.

I like it, I like the fact you can take the whole thing off leaving none of the metal behind.

Good to know. I think I was actually contemplating this on a drop-leg for a larger blade, rather than the dangler that you're using it on.

Looks really good Tal, thanks. I have been thinking about moding my Sojourner sheath into a hi-lo carry.

Very nice. Love the flexibility of switching like that. Can you undo the little screw with the standard screw driver of a SAK? That would be handy! It looks like the small screwdriver of the wave will work fine.

It is submerged - the small screw driver on the WAVE is perfect - and you can use the can opener portion og the sak that has the small screw driver to take the screw out too.

Awesome!!! :thumbup::thumbup:
Were did you find these?! I've been looking for something just like that for a long time. Do you have a link?

Royal,

That thing is a BEAST - 600 pound tensil - and nearly a 1/4" pin! Plus the are 8 bucks apiece before shipping costs!

However - you have given me another avenue of approach. Thanks,

Stingray - if you want onzies twozies - I can PM you a link - but I needed a business ID to get these. They are only a wholesaler.
