Direct drive coote and or two wheel belt grinder?

I have a spare vfd and motor and got to thinking a non pulley direct drive two wheel grinder would be handle to have for general fabrication work as well as sharpening since my main grinder seems to have a contact wheel on it most of the time.

Or would kill for some plans that I could have waterjet. I know a tooling arm 3 wheel style grinder is more versatile looking for simplicity for this one.

Appreciate any help

Tin man,
Ive had a Coote for over 20 years with a 8" wheel on it! The Funny is that I hadly ever Hollow grind! But if I did?

Its would be a great simple low cost machine for Hollow grinding and profile work! My Hardcore & Wilmont grinders carry the bulk of the work!

My Coote was my first real big boy grinder! About 8 years ago mounted it on a dolly cart and now use it for sharpening work on the tail gate of my truck! I have the Coote set up with Variable Speed & pulleys & Link belt...:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ken I already have a tooling arm grinder that I like.

Trying to find something simple that I can use the contact wheel and the flat platen without using different attachments.

Rhino I appreciate it and I like the looks of the coote a great deal. But I’ve had a kmg in the past and hated the step pulleys.

I’ve thought about using a lovejoy coupling but I still think it’s gonna rob it of some power.

Does anyone have a diagram or pictures of how say the coote or the burrking or hardcore tracking mechanisms?

The tracking on my Coote is a simple screw with a double wing nut you tighten or loosen to adjust the belt on the top wheel. I may of not been clear. ..............I don’t use the step pulleys. Just one on the motor & one on the drive shaft of the Coote machine .. I have a 1 horse with a variable speed drive for sharpening but have had a 2 horse to drive the Coote using Link Belt with little to know loss of power... I had a KMG too! I sold it! Didn’t care for it at all. It ended up being used for small wheel work only! Here is a pic of the tracking adjustment on mine on the left..You can see the pin on the right that the block adjusts on. Need any other pics? I’ll try to help. I do suggest you get the 10” contact wheel.

Kalamazoo makes something similar https://www.elitemetaltools.com/too...MIpY2ykZWV2AIVk42zCh0FrgZfEAAYASAAEgKCtvD_BwE it has an 8" contact wheel. price is about $600
I believe that all of the Kalamazoo stuff is now made over seas/ China. I recently purchased a new drive axle for my Coote because after 20 plus years and Many Many hours it was starting to develop the slightest amount of slack so along with new bearings from Grainger, . This time I purchased a new axle from Mrs Coote whom usually answers the phone.. they make or source all parts domestically whenever possible. ........ unfortunately I don’t think any bearings are made here in the USA....
