Direware Books

Now this is just my own very personal opinion.......I didn't know what Direwire was so I went to the website for a look. I would not wait 15 minutes for any thing I saw there, but since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'm happy for those of you who placed orders, were confirmed and are now anxiously awaiting the passage of time.

Paul

I agree. The whole "overbuilt" folder trend does nothing for me.

I envy you dudes who are gonna stick it out. I know for a fact that I would never be able to wait that long for a blade. Patience isn't exactly my forte.

I waited 13 months for an AD-10. I was told at the time of order it was 12 months. At the 13 month point when I emailed asking for a timeframe, I was told it would be a continued, indeterminate amount of time. I canceled my order on the spot. I don't mind a wait, but I do expect you to uphold your end of the deal. Stringing someone along because you make a high demand product isn't cool at all in my opinion.

Wow! That's pretty ballsy and you have my respect for making that decision.

I agree about upholding their time estimate. Obviously things happen but being told what you were told is completely unacceptable.

I got my confirmation email last month as well. I love ordering directly for the maker and I like not paying secondary market prices plus I enjoy the interaction and designing of a knife that comes with most makers just not so much with Direware, but I still love their knives.

I placed my order in 6-2012. I received an email from Eric a few days ago .. Saying he is ready to build ..

By the time it gets here next week it will be 19 months...it's been a long wait for sure.. I am super excited to get my paws on both of the knives I ordered ..

I hope you enjoy it I also placed my order at the end of November, received an order confirmation email and now am on the long haul!

Harleyguy02, did you have to pay in full when you placed your order? i'm just wondering how did the ordering process went.

Direware is a "hot" tactical knifemaker:

http://direware.com/products.html

The knives feature the "overbuilt" characteristics that today's tactical knife collectors lust after, and incorporate short, thick blades that have points which are of limited practical use.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

And up until recently, used steels that didn't really pair well with the design of the knife.

Definitely a collectors knife, not a users knife. Would look great as a boot knife in a science fiction movie.

These knives are not for me either, but then it's good for the growth of the custom knife community that custom knives are created in so many styles thus appealing too many different tastes. However, it's not good when makers don't deliver on their commitments and keep stringing their customers along.

I really wanted that AD-10. I'd still like to own one, but there's absolutely no way I'll consider ordering directly from the maker again. A person is only as good as their word. Fortunately I wasn't out any money, but it was sitting there ready to go, and for me, it was a lot of money (close to $700 if I recall correctly).

UPDATE:

My Hyper 90 will be ready in 10 to 14 days. I am just past the 12 month point of the wait, well within the quoted timeframe. The communication since my turn has come up has been excellent thus far as well.

I have purchased 3 DirewAre knive directly from Eric. All were delivered within quoted timeframes. Just received my Hyper90 this week. He quoted me 18 months and got it in 13. Very good communication. I for one love his knives and use them. I will say the Hyper90 is the most user friendly, and he cut back on the thickness quite a bit from previous models.
