Dirt and close tolerances?

In taking apart and reassembling my sebenza, I was impressed with how well everything fit together, but it did bring up a question -- has anyone had a problem with not being able to open/close their sebenza because of dirt or grit jamming its way into the mechanism? Just because the tolerances are so tight, I mean.. or is it impossible for dirt or grit to get between the washers and the scales or blade, just because the tolerances are so tight? Has anyone tried the "mud test" with their sebenza to test the action? Just wondering.
Thanks!

I recently took my son to Cub Scout camp. He decided that we need to take one of the paddle boats out in the lake. He only weighs 100 lbs., but I weigh over 300 lbs., so I capsized the stupid boat.

Anyway, I was only worried about two things as I went into the murky depths- my wallet and my Sebenza. Both survived! The Sebenza faired much better than the wallet.

The knife had a thick red clay all over it-in the lock, the washers, and on the blade (some pretty nasty water). I opened it and the lock held perfectly. I did wash it out and dry it after I changed clothes. After getting home, I sprayed it out well with WD-40 and then applied the Tuff Glide- works perfectly.

I brought the Sebenza because I knew that it would do what I wanted it to do, but, I didn't have to pamper it.

Thanks! I was just curious because a friend and I were talking about sebenzas, M-16s and close tolerances this morning and the question came up. I told him your story and he said, "cool."

Remember that there is a critical particle size necessary to adversely affect a given tolerance; that is to say, only a certain diameter particle will give you problems. Particles too large simply don't get in between the two surfaces; particles too small will just slide around in the gap.
The chance of you running into a bunch of just the right particles is not very great.

However, if it does happen, that is what the Allen wrench is for!!

Everything is a trade off.
A Mil. Spec. 1911 will shoot after being dropped in mud. I know of no other self loading pistol that will do that.
I pulled an AK 47 out of the rice paddy, rinsed it and it ripped off the whole mag. on full auto; not a stutter.
