Disappointed in a ZT

Ive had this happen on one of my Kershaw clips before, i ended up getting a small slotted screwdriver(i believe it was a 1.5mm) that would fit inside the stripped head and was able to get it out that way. I emailed Kershaw and within a week they sent me new screws and a new clip even though it was fine.

Jimmer_5 was right though, get a good Wiha or Wera driver and you probably wont have these problems

I want to get another torx driver. Can you get the two mention on line?

This just happened to me with a Boker AF FD. They loctited the heck out of the screws, and the heads stripped when I Went to change the clip location.

It is now with Boker getting fixed or replaced. Cryin' shame on a $200 knife.

Using the precision drivers (smaller) helps prevent over tightening and stripping. FWIW.

it's funny that you post this, because i literally did the EXACT same thing today. minus the stripping of the screws that is. I used a T-6 and it fit perfectly, i would bet your wrench is out of spec or you just screwed up.

I've adjusted a few ZTs myself and they were definitely locked down REALLY tight, but never stripped one of them.

If you press down on the middle of the clip it will take some of the pressure off of the screws. That will make them easier to remove.

I want to thank everyone for the help! I heated them up and used a T7 torx to get them out. You all are sure a great bunch of guys?

I NEVER actually use a t6 on a t6 screw. Forcing a t7 in the t6 screw will keep you from stripping it. It has worked for me every time and I fiddle with my knives a lot.

I admittedly only own higher end knives right now, though I do have a Leek and this holds true for it.

I can't get any other than the right size bits in my screws, with the exception of flat heads (Hinderer Pivot) and Philips (Hinderer pocket clip).

For all the torx on my knives I have a set of Wiha tools that only fit one size in the screw head.

If I forced it I would probably end up slipping and stabbing myself, and I don't particularly car for that.

I had the exact same problem with a ZT200 factory second.
Phoned them up @ 800-325-2891
They sent out a new clip and screws within a week.

I complained about hard to remove clip screws on my Kershaw Dam Leek years ago to Kershaw - they came off, but twisted my favorite Craftsman jeweler's Torxx driver. Those mean and nasty folks sent me a new clip, screws, and one of their keychain tool kits... which works quite well. The nerve. Benchmade will send you all of the screws and clips you'll ever need - and tell you about the soldering iron trick. CRK will sell you a piece to fill in the hole - and a screw - if you don't like clips (I don't... they come off and get stowed in the box when the knife arrives home!) - ~$20 + s/h.

Stainz

PS Okay, now let's hear some praise for the ZT-301 as a knife! Mine is a keeper.

Ever since I ponied up for a precision Wiha set of Torx drivers, I've never had any problems with screws. In the past, my problem was always with the torx driver being a POS.

Every knife knut should have a good pair of tools.

i have a feeling a few people out there have out of spec wrenches. just a guess though

It happened to me when changin clip position on a ZT0350. I have to agree, the screws seemed soft compared with other screws. Never had it happen on any other brand.

I didnt strip it completely as i was already very wary, so it can still be un-screwed, i just have to be ultra-careful.
