I purchased a Bowie from Scott in Feb. 2009 here
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=622263. I was really excited, as it was my first custom bowie/forged/5160/lignum and wrought iron. As somebody who collects for diversity having so many firsts filled at once was great. I got it, and despite it coming with a not that sharp of an edge I was quite happy with it. After using it in the basement a short time later I noticed cracks in the handle and reported it to Scott. He posted this thread to find answers:

We discussed the situation and I decided to ship it before Scott moved- he told me that I could choose the handle material that he was sending out to WSSI once the move was over, or have him rush a bit and get it handled in Stabilized curly birch. I decided to take the choice of handle material as I wanted something darker, like the original handle.
I sent him the knife and waited..........
After a while of nothing I started this thread:

It got a response here

The last I heard from him was March 2 of this year. I have sent emails to him from here and even said I would be happy to get the blade, some handle material and the spacer and I'd finish it myself (or not) but at least I would have it with me. His last activity was March 16th so I hold little hope at this point, but was hoping somebody out there still had contact info for him- it seemed to work to get him out last time. If he would have contacted me at any time it would not be such an issue, but it has been gone over a year, and no message for 9 months is excessive. $175 is a lot to me and I don't really want to let it go.

Thanks all

Quite frankly, I am getting sick of the excuses that some makers shell out and then how others buy into their nonsense. Yes, things happen; but there is no excuse for lack of communication or continued broken promises. There is also no excuse to purposely avoid someone. There is no honor in that. Anyway, feel bad for you. After all this time - if this guy is so busy working on other things - then he is probably making some $$ and should just refund your money. :barf:

try contacting Timken bearings . That is who he works for , maybe they can direct you to him . This is not a good deal , he needs to honor this .

Got no where through Timken with emails and a non returned phone call. 2 1/2 years, no contact for months. Still very disappointing......

That is really a shame. Sorry to hear that this fell apart the way it did. You copuld always have it rehandled though. It's little consolation, but that is a viable option.

I recently got a hold of Scott, and he has made things more than right with me. It seems passwords were forgotten, shop was turned into an office, and in general life got in the way until I found another contact for him. We talked for over an hour, and he immediately responded and asked for my phone number. He suggested a compensation that was more than fair, and followed up immediately. He seems like a good guy that had one issue, and dealt with it promptly without making excuses (his explanation I don't find to be an excuse because he apologized/took full responsibility and offered to make it right before any description of what happened).

Overall I wish things went better, but no longer feel taken and hope him well in the future.
