Just got a Spyderco Military. Thought I would like it since I have a few para millies that i like. I figured the ergos would be good if not better and I gotta say im disappointed and will be returning this knife. Im a huge Spyderco fan so im kind of disappointed that im not happy with it. Anyone else feel the same way or have a similar experience??

Just curious about the details of why you're disappointed with the knife. The Military isn't for everyone, but more info may help other prospective buyers.

I haven't found another folder as comfortable as the Military. Personal preferences, hand size and shape, and specific characteristics of a knife such as weight, handle material, tip orientation, are all a part of liking a knife or not.

I don't like Mils because they aren't tuff enuff. Tuff name but they don't make the grade.

I've read all the ballyhoo about them b4 anyone wants to lay into me. I've handled them I know what they are.
You want a tuff knife? A 275 Adamas is an "adequate" knife.

I like the 4" blade but the handle just seems to be too large? I have pretty large mitts and it just doesnt feel good in my hand. To each his own I guess. You are right Esav its just a matter of personal preferences. I will pass her on and let someone else enjoy her!

Spyderco Milie prabably one of the worthiest value knife out there, even more than Para IMO. Wonder what made you disappointed.

I've been really disappointed with my Benchmade Mini Griptillian and I dont really know why.

I'm not sure about the Millie being a "tuff" knife, but I know for a fact that it is definitely a *tough* folder.

we both know what i meant when i typed tuff. Any knife that is prone to tip breakage aint tuff.

I carried a military for 6 months and i know for a fact that the tip isn't going to break as long as you use the knife as a knife.

That is your opinion, nothing based in fact. Or do you have any evidence of using a knife to actually cut things where you would break the tip off? Keep in mind, some people mistake a cutting tool with a prybar, or try to use a folder as a camp axe, shovel, hammer, etc.

I've had and used varaious Mlitarys since 1998, never broke a tip.

Uh, that's not my experience at all. The Military is my favorite of all Spydercos. It's a great slicer, and very light and thin to carry, and tough enough for most knife cutting tasks. If I need a heavier duty folder I go to ZT.

Good point knives are meant for cutting not prying!! The Military does seem very well made and as a matter of fact it does seem like it could hold its own! Its not going to compete with my Grayman Satu but it seems like a solid knife. Just not for me, thats all.

No worries man, just funny how some folks love to overgeneralize without any real proof to back up claims. If the Para2 works for you then I say

The Military is a fantastic large EDC and to me, has none of the common negatives of a larger folder such as weight or thickness - the only gripe I personally have is that you can't orient the clip to tip up. Apart from that I don't think I've evr heard anyone imply the ergos aren't good or comfortable - that might be a first for me. And from my personal experience, the Military has always had much better lockup than the PM2 I have had. Every PM or PM2 I have had has had some form of side to dide play or minor vertical play.

Just my .02 . . .

Obviously, we all know that the Military is an excellent, well-made, time-tested knife. The tip may not stand the abuse of other blades with heavier or blunter tips, but the tip is wonderful for fine cutting, the blade is excellent for slicing and it's plenty tough for EDC duty. Personally, I don't like heavier EDC knives because they don't cut as well, and I tend to use my EDC.

I do understand that many people might not like the Military for one reason or another. We're all individuals. But I don't get this new thing with the American consumer that if we buy something that is perfectly well made, with the specs clearly described, why we just return it if it doesn't quite tickle our fancy. And then come and post our dislike on a major forum without any real reason -- apparently, just so the world knows our opinion.

Klute...If you want a tough knife, get a fixed blade. Folders aren't meant to be tough use knives. They're meant for lighter duty cutting and slicing, not prying and batoning etc. That's what a fixed blade is for.

No. The Military is one of the best knives in production today.

Blade/handle ratio is pretty terrible, and carries pretty wide in the pocket. I prefer a heavier duty lock for the size, and also without the exposed release. While the PM2 has too much choil (none would be better) and not the best blade/handle ratio, I much prefer it. I also agree the name isn't the best. I have sharpened many, many knives for service members, and the tip of the millie is definitely not made for these guys. But I've also never seen a service member with one or in the PX. Saber ground endura is a better fit, imo.
