Well seeing as I'd lost my old Ti ..... I thought I'd get the new 2007 TTi ..... even though the discontinued Ti could be bought for kick ass prices ..... ;)

Big mistake !! :barf:

I knew there was little difference between the old Ti and new TTi apart from the addition of the Crimper and Cutting Hook and better steel on the Main Blade ..... but I did assume the new Charge would be more refined in fit and finish and so worth the higher price .....

Nope !!

The fit is actually worse (on mine anyway) than my old Ti .....
- the four external blades don't sit in the centre when closed, in fact the File blade actually scrapes the side when deploying (hopefully it won't rub off the Diamond coating)
- one side of the internal blades is far too tight and the other too loose
- the Plier heads don't perfectly close together leaving a gap
- the Liner Locks are all off-centre and one looks like it may slip
- the Main blade is nowhere near sharp

:thumbdn:   :grumpy:

I'm gonna lube it up with Militec and put it through my SharpMaker but overall ..... I reckon I'd have been better off getting the older Ti's for a much better price ..... :(

I have both the original XTi Charge and the TTi Charge and they are both comparable in fit and finish. I cannot say that the new one is made any better than the original-just extra stuff.

I would think about sending it back to Leatherman. It sounds like you might have one that slipped through their QC.

I really wanted to like the Charge series. I like the interchangeable bits, and the way you can make sawzall blades fit the lanyard ring attatchment. I've been looking at the new, and old models for a few months now. They're just too crudely built. The handle slop, uneven grind on the clip point blade, and the pliers have a cobby look to them. Also why don't the Ti. handle models say TITANIUM on it in big ass letters so everyone knows, and when I show it to my friends they'll actually believe it's titanium. Why don't they come with an awl? I think Leatherman missed the mark. Imho the Charge series is not worth the price.

Leatherman should've added locking blades to the PST, beefed it up, and made the handles more comfortable. That would've been a good tool. I always liked LM's innovations, but they never work well. Victorinox has it right all along, take the time to design a good product, and slowly refine it. No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater like LM. Lm wants to sell gimmicks. New, and improved...

Leatherman has fallen far from the tree..way too gadgety and not usefull enough.

I hate those interchangable bits, which are crude, don't fit the screw well enough, and aren't long enough

The tools bind together and against the scales, ack

leatherman wants to sell gimmicks?? come on guys this is just gonna start a leatherman and vic slamming again.

unfortunatly, I think you got a bad one.

Yeh I think you got a bad one :( I have bought 2 charges and had to send them both back because of the qulity control .One was replaced and one was repaired , and it all worked out ok in the end .Quite a few people have commented lately on LMs quality of fit and finnish . They seemed so much better in the days of the old Supertool .

I bought a Charge AL over the internet and I'm very disappointed. There are definite quality issues -- in particular the liner locks on the four outside blades/tools are very poorly done (at least on mine). I don't think I'll be buying Leatherman tools again. I had good people telling me to stick with Swisstool, but I wanted to see what Leatherman was like....my mistake.

Perfectionist, I'm sorry to hear that your tool is not to standards.
:)

OK, I've had the TTi for a few weeks now ..... I thought it might somehow improve after being used a while ..... Wrong !! :( :grumpy:

The frikkin Serrated Blade folded on me and nearly cut the top of my finger off !! :barf: :thumbdn:

I'm sending it back for repair ..... I wish they had a FreePost address to save me wasting even more money ..... :jerkit:

Anyway, if it ain't absolutely perfect when it comes back ..... I'm gonna kick Tim Leatherman's ass !!

I loved my old Ti so much ..... dang it, what the funk has happened to LM !!

it's only LM, with LM quality, if there wasn't something else on the market with a finer build quality everyone would be in LM's jock. it's the truth we all know it.

as for you scoring a dud LM, i feel bad for you, coz regardless of their finish and quality, they have proven to be excellent tools, but some units do slip through Q.C, and some people will complain until they get theri money back so they can acquire aforementioned market competitor's product.

nothing, your mega picky, spoilt like the rest of them..
Not at all ..... my old Charge (which was cheaper!) was much better quality ..... and newbie, what do you mean "spoilt like the rest of them" ?? :jerkit:

True ..... but it seems LM quality is not what it used to be a couple of years ago ..... :thumbdn:

I reckon the Charge is the best multi on the market ..... and you're probably right about my unit having slipped through QC - guess I will see when it arrives back ..... but I ain't complaining to get my money back (LM don't even do that FFS ! ) ..... I just want a Charge without any manufacturing faults !!

I carry and use my charge everyday. I have had about 5 leatherman multi tools. My favorite is the supertool hands down. I own two supertools. I am not very happy with the finish and my charge binds at times. I love the pocket clip but wish it was stiffer. I am not trying to slam them, but I think this one could have been more refined.

i mean't spoilt for choice, my dad has this older leatherman, i used to use it constantly, it's why I ordered a xti, If the quality is not as good as that i'll be dissapointed..

I know, it sucks when you find something that tweaks your desire only to find it has faults.

I ordered my xti through ebay because no1 here has them, and if they did, i have a feeling I'd have to organise an extension on my home loan just to get it. if it sucks, i'm getting a swisstool or just strap a tool belt on and walk around with full sized tools. in the end I don't care. As for your situation, I hope it works out, don't take no for an answer, it's something you want to have confidence in, to know the tool can be relied upon when needed, Best of luck!

I've hesitated to jump in on this thread until I gave my TTi a good workout but I've now put it to moderate use on two occasions. Both times helping organize my son's garage after moving to a new house. It was used to construct new shelves both free standing and wall mounted, cutting up packing boxes, twine, assembling toys, etc. I only found it wanting in the phillips driver, I really needed larger size. Also, I'm not sure I will ever utilize the standard bit kit.
Maybe I got lucky because fit and finish on mine is excellent. I also own and use the original PST and Victorinox Spirit which have their own merits. Maybe the TTi will get a better workout on my fishing trip to KY Lake next week.

my new xti is impressive, i've use some auto-sol and buffed the knife and pliers to remove the milling lines, i don't think the fit is any worse, but the finish is probably a lil more crude, leatherman have been thrashing multi-tools for decades, i don't think they give two sh*t's because these tools get used.

In 10 years time the victorinox spirit will be scratched to the bugs house. If you arent heavy on your tools, but you like some titanium, buff the leatherman it comes up nice, but ive already put scratches all over it, i can''t baby tools, i know this can handle whatever i throw at it.

my only gripe with my xti is that the file scrapes like someone said before it's diamond it wont harm it. unless it scrapes hard, send it away, or fix it *bend* lol.. good luck oh, and another thing i like about the leatherman xti it doesnt tell the world via 'click' morse code when u are using it.. it's alot more silent than the viccies. peace.

I have to disagree whith that , there are plenty of the original Swisstools that have been about for ten years that have stood up to abuse and still look very good and I see no reason that the Spirit should be any different .unless someone would like to post a pic to proove me wrong .

Try the Leatherman Blast...I don't think you will be disappointed.
The handles are very comfortable, all of the tools lock, and they all work as designed 100%.
You don't get the awl that was on the old PST, but you do get a woodsaw and scissors.
And best of all, it's only about $40.00 dollars.

Buy one at Target or Walmart...that way, if you don't like it you can return it and get your money back.
