On March 4th I placed an order for a 112 automatic. I waited for a month for this knife to become available. I received it yesterday and it misfires repeatedly. I have to flip it to get it to lock. I push the button and blade falls open about 1/4 to 1/2 way to the lock position. Is there something I should do before sending it back? It’s a pricey item and now going to be even more pricey and Im going to have to wait even longer.

Yes, if you ordered it directly from BUCK (or one of their distributors) print out the repair form on the Buck Knives website and send it in with the knife. Make sure it is the factory built automatic and not one of the third party automatics. The factory build auto has the full factory warranty for life, the others do not. The Buck Knife Co will not let you down. OH

Old Hunter and BuckShack have it right...call for a return shipping label. That is really not like a Buck product, especially one of their automatics.

Make sure it is a Buck factory auto, if it is a third party conversion and you send it to Buck I doubt that you will have it returned.

There should be a label on the end of the box, it should read either, 0112BRSA-B, CATALOG #11894 or 0112BKSA-B, CATALOG 11895.

You can watch this Buck video and compare yours with the one shown. Pay particular attention to the design of the button. HTH

Welcome aboard.

From whom did you order your 112?

Are you able to post a few pictures of your problem?

Thanks guys, it’s the real thing. I ordered from Knife Center . Com. They are here in Va in Fredericksburg. I have a 110 Auto that I carry daily. It made me want the 112. This was a BD present to myself. I tried oiling but I used Hopps gun oil. I don’t think there is Teflon in that. I usually buy direct from Buck but they said they were out of stock, my local dealer had none and the Knife Center claimed to have them so I placed the order and then got an Email the next day saying they were delayed and so it went. Don’t ask me why I tried this but I put it in the fridge. It works better when I take it out. I felt like the heat in my hand made it worse. I’m heading out and will look for a better lubricant and I will work with it more this evening and I’ll report back. Thanks again. BTW it’s Cat 11894 dated 04/28/2020.

knifecenter should exchange for you. I'd start there first.

While were here I want to ask. I was reading in another thread that Buck wont work on their autos if you live out of the state. Did I misread?
Id love to have one of the autos but if it has issues I'd want it fixed.

Please inform.

Its a shipping issue. If your after an auto it might be best to buy from a trusted source who can ship themselves and willing to receive and ship.

Thats what I thought I read.
It may be a choice but shouldn't be a shipping issue. Lots of state's allow autos and lots don't restrict any kind of knives whstsoever. Arkansas for instance has no knife laws, zero.
I just cant spend that kind of money and not be able to have it serviced. Most people don't have a dealer near them just to do returns.

Not that I could understand the difference shipping to a dealer and/or a private owner.
I ship a gun to the manufacturer for repair and they ship it right to my door signature required.

federal laws are the issue, not your states laws. I'm paraphrasing and badly but you'll get the idear..... transporting across state lines is not allowed unless fit into special classes of citizens...such as police, firefighters, (dealers.....I believe but could be wrong), (one armed man or woman....not kidding). course military is exempt from this federal law.

If that was true you couldn't order from a dealer out of state either.

it is true.....they get around it by you as the buyer agreeing in their terms your one of the allowed groups. read the fine print. we shouldn't be talking about it here though.

Yes federal law controls both interstate commerce and using the USPS to ship them. The laws are listed on this site. The one arm man only applies to possession not sale. You are right that most dealers ask you to state you fall into one of the few groups that are allowed to buy them interstate.

I've handled and fired a lot of these ,yet to see a misfire, wondering if it's just gunned up,with crude from the polishing stages,if it doesn't clean up,you'll be fine ,Buck will fix you up.They are a lot of fun to play with,I've never used mine just got it to play with .

Mine did the exact same thing as the OP's. I thought about sending it back, but it is such a beautiful knife I was worried about getting a dog back. I cleaned it and put some Balistol oil on it. It works great now and getting even better with time.

With all of the buffing that goes on compound definately gets into the action, I always use hot water, dawn and a tooth brush. Dry. Then flush with WD40. Dry that and then lightly oil. The entire process I open and shut the blade repeatedly during the process.
