Disappointing things happened.

Throw them a number around what you were getting paid or want to get paid, and then tell them to give you 2-3 bucks less until I can prove I will make your company money and do whatever it takes to make sure I always have a job here, and that this business is always around and growing while I am here. Also tell them that you will work whatever overtime comes my way. Once you are in the door and you get through your probation period, you should start getting what you really wanted out of the company, when you are happy/more comfortable and the company is happy with you. Take advantage of unemployment work programs, they are designed to get you into career/job training. Tough break, things can only get better as long as your not a slacker . Best of Luck!

Thanks for the advice guys I appreciate it. And the knives were bought from knife center and I emailed them and talked to them and mailed them back and they said that there was no problem returning them. I wouldn't return something because I know I would be upset if I got something that someone used and said was new.

Have you considered enlisting in the military? You get to earn the honor and privilege of becoming part of something bigger than yourself that few events in live can match plus you can earn a living and learn a career/trade. It's not all easy but to serve is an honor. To serve with honor is ones duty.

This^^^ There is no way in hell I'd be where I am today if I hadn't of joined the military, I didn't get a degree, but putting that down on a job application lets your boss know you have self discipline and your a leader. I started out my current job as a regular employee, now I'm a production supervisor for one of the largest auto makers in the world. Nothing is handed to you though my friend you haft to take it. It took me a few years of 60-70 hour work weeks to move up the ladder , but with hard work and dedication , you control your own destiny. a long time ago I took the word can't out of my vocabulary, and if I hear someone around me say it I say no you can you just choose not to. Keep your chin up and be the guy in the crowd that is willing to go the extra mile for his work, who is willing to do the jobs others either don't like or refuse to do, Do it and do it better than anybody else. When I got my job I told my then boss, I want the hardest fastest most physical job in this plant, he smiled and said OK, granted I regretted saying those words for about 1 1/2 years, I believe saying that, and the fact that I was in the military got me to where I am today...

Most of us have been in your shoes, at one time or another. You will be okay; you will make it. If it was easy, it wouldn't be much fun. You will get past this, my friend.
I'm a big believer in the military. It was good for me and both of my sons.

op, for all the knives we could never afford, we gain a purpose in life :-)
but thankfully, the doldrums in life gets augmented with forums as this.
good luck out there and, carpe diem!

A year ago I was in the same position. It gets better your young and I understand you have a wife to support. Fill out applications try to do atleast 4 a day. Jump on the first thing that shows to get your money flowing back in and then look for something you actually want to do. If I was your age I would be on the way to boot camp.

Wish I was at your age again. Don't know what trade or skills ya have? Build your skillset where ever you go. I won't bore ya with details....but I am always looking for skilled workers and I had to give up and start a training program. Even still few learn and hold out. Most quit because its hot hard dirty work. My advice Don't be that guy.....employers love motivated, energetic, willing to learn workers. You are young so you already haved these skills I just mentioned. Show that and when you land the job, learn all you can and turn that into opportunities for yourself. Good luck and don't feel too bad we have all been there, some of us a few times.;)

Lastly, too bad you can't return the wifes tattoo.....id rather have the knife......

i guess you could say that you've been "cutting back" your knife collection.

Many are recommending the military, but we need to understand it is currently tough, tough times in the military. The Army, our largest service, is quickly moving from a recent high active duty personnel strength of ~570,000 to 490,000. Was to be accomplished by 30 September 2017 but now accelerated to being accomplished by 30 September 2015 due to fiscal constraints. Will likely go to ~420,000 in the following two years. That's a >25% cut. Then there's talk of further reductions to 390,000 and perhaps below. Other services are following suit. Standards are tightening greatly.
