i have a folder that i would like to disassemble to use as a pattern, how do i go about doing this? its a slip joint

If you can get a copy of "The complete book of pocket knife repair" by Ben Kelly Jr., he has instructions for taking pocket knives apart. I have a portion of my library in storage right at the moment or I'd recount his instructions here.

Way I've done it on cheapo folders is to locate and drill part of the pins away and drive them out with a smaller dia. pin punch.

Ben Kelly used a thin bladed knife that he drove between the blade and liners of the folder with a hammer. I have cut apart a few this way and it works well. Just don't use your favorite knife to cut the pins, it's not good for the knife you are using.

i got it apat last night, i got out my leather man and pushed the blade between the blade and the liner right where the pivot pin was. i then twisted the blade to pry the liner away from the blade. worked like a charm, i now have a nice pattern. i have learned a lot just be studying how it works and why its the way it is.
