I've got a 12" disc sander/grinder from Harbor Freight and a spare 1 1/2 HP motor and variable speed controller from an old belt sander. I'm thinking about mounting the motor and controller on the disc sander to grind blades. My question is what blades would be best to grind and how do I do it? Can anyone recommend U-tube instructional videos, or better yet, a DVD I can buy?

Tim, have you considered a 9" disc rather than the 12". I find
it so easy to get sandpaper because I can cut any 9" sheet to fit. I think on the other hand, the variable speed will be a huge help. I seldom if ever run mine over 50% and it's only a 1hp. Frank

The last disc grinder thread had a link to a video of a get together at Wuertz Machine Works and the gentleman showed how he used the disc grinder. It's a long video of pretty poor quality but the info is very good. I believe it was Tim Hancock that was doing the demo that was hosted by Travis.

Watch Nick Wheeler's finish grinding vids.. He starts using the disc in part 2, and uses it some more in part 3 so check that out as well.

Here is part two:

And here is the Tim Hancock Vid mentioned above. Such a great vid, I kinda wish that all the people in the background would've shut up and listened to the golden knowlege he was giving, so that we could hear it as well.. oh well, you can still make it out if you listen closely..

Thanks, Paul,
I watched both videos and decided to buy a disc and make my own grinder. Will try to sell the HF on Craigslist.
