Disccusion: Beckerhead BK-10 Special (was: Don't you just HATE it when ...)

This is like being a kid on Christmas morning, knowing there is some amazing awesomeness under the tree, and having to wait at the top of the stairs for your parents to tell you when you can come down and bask in the glorious glow...

I can feel the electricity in this thread.

Good analogy.

All,
Okay; Since the cat is out of the bag: These are the left over BK-10 blanks from Camillus. Made from 0170-6/CarbonV/0170-6C/1095CV. Basically the same stuff. The other guy and myself had to rent a U-Haul truck and carry these (along with a lot of other stuff) back to Olean from Camillus. Ethan followed with more in his Great White Whale. The Camillus Auction was a great but sad time. Sort of like attending a wake. Lots of good rememberances. Saw a lot of great knife people there....anyway back to task.
The blanks were stamped, heat treated (martempered) and ground. We started with 200 pieces but after processing we are down to 185. They were on the truck headed for powder coating when the other guy and I intercepted the lot. It was unloaded and now they are in my office. We plan on NOT powdercoating them as the vast majority of you strip it off anyway and do your "thing" with the steel surface. They are getting sharpened today. We are planning on giving both Grivory and Micarta handles with the knife. It will most likely have the green Camillus Cordura Sheath. But I'm sure the BeckerHeads will sheath up with whatever is their desire.
The Mods have been busy and they will make things happen.
Okay. That is it in a nut shell. Hope this helps.

PS: Guyon...nice hat.

Thanks for the heads up Toooj, much appreciated. Thanks for making this happen.

Toooj,

We're anxiously awaiting... Have these have been sitting at your shop for years?? or am I missing something and there has been another auction ???

I'm assuming by 'processing' you're talking quality control after grinds?? or just unusable steel?? 15 blades is a lot to eat.. btw, I'll take 'em for arrowheads:D

good call on the coating... but do they still come with an anti-rust warranty?? :D

take care,

Battle Creek,

The raw blanks had been in the warehouse for several years while we schemed about what to do with them. The Becker Forums have been very good for KA-BAR and we wanted to give you guys a special treat...same as with the BK-77 closeout.
We typically lose some blades during the setup of the various manufacturing processes. We also know that some of them end up in the hands of the various workers. As far as quality; the blades look very good...straight, grinds are even.
Yeah...sorry no rust coverage but that doesn't seem to be an issue with most of the BeckerHeads.

Rust is nothing but a suntan for you blades.

Thanks Toooj, for all the work.

For sure. I think all the personal manhandling of these blades might be the most special part of all this.

I would have been happy to volunteer (with ME driving of course-no one but me drives it) the use of my 2008 Power Wagon (the Becker of 4x4 trucks) to haul & tow whatever you guys had to haul. I even have a small flatbed utility trailer. I am about an hour or so from Olean. You guys--again that made this happen- ROCK !!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Guys,

You are welcome. But it works both ways. The Becker Forums is a big part of KA-BAR's success. And we do appreciate everyones participation. A special thanks to the Mods. They keep things really rocking.

The mods are just keeping it real. That's why we're currently converting forum power from moose juice to pimp juice.

It runs more efficient that way. <slap> Pimp Hoof.

This I agree with. Big thanks to the mods, Toooj and everyone else behind the scenes that's fueling my addiction even more! Y'all are BY enablers and I like it! Up until now my want list was; a Brute, Patrol Machete, BK9, BK7 and a Necker. Now I get to lust after this hybrid 10 until it arrives.

Thanks Toooj for everything you and Kabar are doing for us Beckerheads!!

And a big thanks goes out to Uncle Ethan for everything he does for us too!!

I think this is the first thread I've ever read all the way through, every single post, just to enjoy the anticipation of getting to Tooj's posts.

I'm definitely in. Hadn't counted on spending anything on knives until the Tweeners and Machax got released, and realized that my knife fund was actually a little bit heavy considering there's still six months (+/-) before that happens, so I just bought a Fenix TK21 (I'm a light freak too) and depleted the fund. GW's gonna be one happy girl by the end of this week after all the butterin' up I'm gonna lay on 'er. Hell, I'll be even happier, 'cause butterin' up has its own rewards, plus I'll have a new knife!

Oh...Gotta git....Yeah Baby Cakes, I'm warmin' up the water to wash your feet right now. I'll be there in just a sec.

See ya guys.

Blues

Ethan? You mean that guy that used to post here?

:D

Moose

Yeah - what's up with him ? He get the Ban Hammer or something ? ... :D (yuk, yuk, yuk)

This IS a great promo - Thanks again and "Big Ups" for everyone involved.
