Discontinued

Nah, they are still in the catalog.

Man, I can't believe the Recon XL clip is discontinued. It's one of my all time favorites.

Ditto! I have one in CTS XHP. Love that wide FFG blade. I think it looks WAY better than the tanto. The tanto blade looks ill-fitted to the handle IMO.

Although the tanto wins in the point strength department and takes up less pocket space.

I got the Recon 1 XL Tanto. It fits well in the front pocket of my Levi's 505. Because it's narrow when closed I can easily access my wallet. I did loosen the clip slightly and very lightly sand the scales with 400 grit paper. Just the lightest sanding takes the bite off the G-10. I'm sure carrying and using it would also smooth out the scales if you're more patient. The last thing I did was the choil mod.
I've owned all the XLs except for the Voyager and Vaquero and this one is my favorite because it carries the best.
I will add that Knifeworks is selling this knife for the same price as the regular (non XL) Recon 1 Tanto. Not sure if that's a mistake but it's the best deal I found.

I agree on the ease of carry, it's the reason I chose it over the C.Point.

Best option in weight/size between the XL Voyager annd the Rajah II, IMO, and with better steel!

And it's no mistake, KW has many XL at the same price of their L version since June...they didn't tell me a reason back then when I asked

I got my hands on a couple of 6", G-10 Ti-Lites, and a couple AUS8 XL Recons for a great price. I may hang on to these. I was wanting to strip the paint off one of the Recons, but I am not sure whether they will be in demand in 5-10 years.

I think you should modify it to whatever you like man. Even if it's discontinued, i doubt it will double or triple its price after 5-10 years. Even if it does, it still not going to worth a fortune for it to be an investment. Life's too short for that ;)

BTW, if the Recons have the new DLC coating, then dont bother as you can only sand it off and it's gonna be ugly as hell

I think I agree. Even if it doubles in price it won't amount to much. I have the older AUS8 versions with the paint so it should be easy to remove, but I still want it to look professional. Have you ever taken one of these apart?

It's an easy knife to take apart, just keep track of which washers go where and don't pinch/fold the nylon washers. I used orange citrustrip on my lawman and it worked great. Still took some elbow grease though...

Got the xtra large recon today in the mail. First impressions were holy crap that's huge. Pics really don't do the size of the knife justice. I like it, not something I'd carry though. Totally going to be fun to whack stuff with.

Once you get used to carrying the XL sized models especially the Raj - then try to go back to smaller , even a 4" blade seems like a toy . Very nice set !

That is very true...feels heavy but not excessively bulky or cumbersome

Rajah is incredibly comfortable to carry due to its pocket clip.

I forgot I was carrying it in public places a couple times these years, no kidding, because of how it carries with its highly-positioned clip, and I had other things in mind.

What? They discontinued the Talwar? It seems to be such a popular model. I see pictures of it on instagram all the time

Yeah kakefat , they sure did ! Poor sales or maybe Lynn is going for a less "tactical " look , eg the "Colossus" ?

Peacent , great photos of beautiful knives . I once found myself at a security checkpoint in a federal building that shared with state offices that issued drivers licenses (why I was there) . I had two huge 5.5" blade CS folders on me . I decided to just act nonchalant , so I just put my armament into their little tray . They wanded me real thoroughly and acted a bit nervous when the metal plates in my leg set off the wand . But I don't look or act like a bad-guy and this was in a very rural county -so they passed me thru OK . I learned to be a little more aware of post 911 security measures . They returned my babies on the way out but gave me some weird looks !

I cant imagine the sales could have been that bad. The espada line is still in the catalogue and considering how specialized those are they cant possibly sell better than the talwars.

Even if the sales were bad I find it hard to understand that cold steel would just give up on such a well thought out model instead of giving it some extra marketing.

Yeah, the clip just has a great "traditional" (kinda 110ish) look to my eye despite it's massive size. I need to get one in XHP...

Seriously, both Talwars are fantastic models that I figured would be around for a long time. :(

I asked the CS rep over on instagram about the Talwar and he said while he doesn't know about this particular decision discontinuing a model is usually done to make room for something new. So if they discontinue something so wicked I guess there is hope for something even more wicked to take its place next year.

I'm afraid that the something new is ...dah,dah ... The COLOSSUS !

Not at all a good omen for Cold Steel's direction , at least for me .

Wasn´t the colossus already in the catalogue long before the talwar was discontinued? The colossus has absolutely zero appeal for me.

That could be true about the Colossus being already out . But I sure don't see an exciting "even more wicked" replacement for the Talwar . But one can hope !

Yes, I have to agree that it is surprising that the Talwar had such a short run.

I recall the Scimitar folder was in production for over a decade.

I know I will be picking up more Talwars over the near future.

I was going to sell my green talwar xl, but now I'm going to hang on to it for a while.

I need to grab a 4" though.
