i ordered a knife from Discount Knives and wasn't to happy with the quality or condition of it, has anyone else bought from them via the internet ?? if so what was your experience with them. did the blade arrive in good shape and did they have protective cardboard covers
or did they arrive in the leather sheath...just seemed odd.

Joe - I'm moving this to Good, Bad, & Ugly forum where you might get more responses to your inquiry there. Here we go.....

The one purchase I had from them was very satisfactory. The prices are rock bottom to begin with, and the knife was at my door within 3 days of ordering.

Here is the drill with discount knives. I have purchased 3 of them this way and am very very happy. First off, the guy does not take calls much from what I hear. He gets back via e-mail fast sometimes, sometimes not at all. I find the knife I want online. I order it and use the blank spaces in the order form to write a note telling him I only want the knife if he has it in stock. I tell him to e-mail me if he does not have the knife in stock. If he has to order it, forget it.(He is bad at following up on orders from what I have seen, but if he has it, out it goes.)

I have always ordered with a major credit card. This way if its never shipped or lost I am totally protected and its his baby. Finally I always had him ship Express mail and it got to me really quick. That was before all the terrorism. I would not count on him giving you UPS tracking numbers. Just seems the package always shows up if you follow my model. I like his prices. He will e-mail you if he does not have the knife and cant fill your order. I would order from him again.

this thing must have just been a fluke when i ordered, the knife had scratches and an uneven finish on the handle and the tip of the blade had grind marks, i guess one have slipped by- i'm ordering a "Gambler" model to give it another shot, he usually e-mails me back within 24 hours and the folder i ordered from him before was fine, the prices ARE really good......

I ordered a Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel, over the Internet about 3 years ago.

Not in stock.

Sent about 8 emails asking for some kind of response, date to come in, etc. Finally got a reply saying that he would ship it when he got it, with no date.

3 Months wait - no shovel. I cancelled the order, but did not trust that I would not be charged. So I wrote a letter warning him to not charge me. - No reply. Customer service is not really a priority for that dealer.

I ordered three times - was very happy with the first two deals. Great price, fast shipping. The third package never arrived, my e-mails were not answered... I had to work with my CC company to get the refund.

If you don't afraid of problems you can buy from him. It was my main source in past, but after 9 orders I decided not to deal with him more.

joebe,

First, I'd like to commend you on your style of approaching your situation with "Discount Knives" in this forum. Specifically, you didn't stroll into the GB&U with guns blazing. . .

But, unlike your transaction, I've been able to complete 6 blade deals with "Discount Knives" and come away with 6 very exceptional deals ! :D

My good transactions with them doesn't take away from nor add to the experience that you've received with them. I do empathize with you though. . .

Have you communicated your displeasure with the service or product that you've received ?

I'm a firm believer of giving the seller the opportunity of correcting what you believe are mistakes or errors in your order. If, the seller doesn't comply with your wishes, there are many other avenues available of ensuring that you're reimbursed.

Good luck ~ keep us posted.

they got back to me in about 12 hours via the e-mail when i said that i was returning the questionable "Fortress", the guy was polite and friendly, the first time i bought from them there was no problem at all, the only thing was the quality of the knife, so far no problem with service. if i don't get one at the gunshow this weekend, i'm ordering the "Gambler" from them ($30 less then everyone else) and will keep everyone updated with the end result.

this is a great forum with the instant feedback from other like-minded knife nuts, it gives you a much better perspective when dealing with problems.
