1st, an explanation. For the last couple years I have been getting 100 blocks of Bog Oak at a time shipped to me from the Ukraine. I would get a new batch when I got down to a couple dozen blocks. This last batch of 100 blocks of Ancient Bog Oak cost me about 20% more than I had been paying for it..
So....I raised my prices accordingly. But that didn't go over very well with everyone. I had a few phone calls asking me why I raised the prices so much. One maker said "Sure, get us hooked on the stuff and then jack up the prices". He was teasing me, I think.
With the price increase the sales went from a couple blocks a day to a couple blocks a week. That doesn't work.
So I had to make a decision.
Do I quit carrying this wood? or do I lower the prices to where they used to be and hope the makers who buy Bog Oak get some other woods as well.
Currently there are a dozen stabilized blocks in the store so I put them on sale making the prices a few dollars lower than the previous batches. I really want to keep offering this wood as it is one of my favorites. Before I send more in to be stabilized or purchase more I wanted to see what happens with these. Even though the photo stinks, they are very nice pieces and come with a money back guarantee.
These blocks are cut extra large so they can be used on large handle fighters or maybe 2 smaller handle knives. They have been cut quarter sawn so they show some subtle rays and flecks.
The log these were cut from was carbon dated to be 5460 years old +/- 50 years. That was when they were still building the pyramids. A copy of the carbon dating report is included with each blocks purchased.
Click on the photo to go where these blocks are located in our web store.

This is the carbon dating report that will accompany the wood.
