Did anyone happen to watch Discovery Channel's new show "Big Giant Swords"? I can't figure out for the life of me why they would put this on air. There are so many great craftsman making interesting stuff. I'm not ever sure you can call these things swords, rather just metal cut into ridiculous shapes that resemble bad movie props. Interested to hear other's opinions.

Saw that it was on last night. Read the description but it wasn't for me. Think I started watching some magician on SyFy.

To keep things knife related, it did remind me to take down my Turbulence and grease up the torsion bar cavity. It was rattling pretty badly when I got it on Monday. Now it's dead silent. This pleases me.

I'm not gonna lie, I recorded it. I haven't seen it yet but I knew in advance from watching the commercials that I'm going to need to be working on at least my second bourbon before I hit play. The previews alone showed way too much sensationalism surrounding his props (I'm not going to call them swords). Begg had a show for a little bit but I didn't care for the manufactured drama there either. I don't care much for way overbuilds (like a cleaver used to cut a pig carcass in half on Begg's show or the flaming pallet chop they showed in the commercial for Big Giant Swords).

Personally, I'd love to see a competition show about builders, like Face Off or Top Chef. Little challenges along the way and judging. That'd provide enough drama for me as well as show some interesting techniques. It would make a good YouTube series!

I like Irish Mike and his giant swords, and hope being featured on a TV show doesn't just chew him up and spit him out.

I give it three months before..:
"This week on Big giant Swords:
Mike is asked to create a giant pink glowing saber for a gay wedding.Tension ensues as the "Grooms" overrun the shop and attempt to give Mike a makeover. Meanwhile, trouble down at the foundry when Mike finds out his daughter is dating Merle, who is secretly seeing his cousin as well. Egos clash as the design team and Mike butt heads over the direction of the next build.." :D

Funny, My thoughts exactly.

Btw, no offense intended toward the star Mike, he seems like a crazy weird guy who just wants to build weird stuff and call them swords. I have no issue with that. my issue is why Discovery would make a show of it. But I guess there are worse things to complain about.

They made a show of it because people keep paying them every month to pipe this crap into their living room. To make an entertaining program based on reality takes research and people with real knowledge. To make a program like "Big Giant Swords", you just have to find someone like Mike. Don't forget to pay your cable or sattelite bill this month so they can fund the next program. Lol.

Not my thing but he's having a lot of fun doing it. I saw part of his live Q&A on YouTube yesterday. He seemed like a cool guy, not too crazy. His priorities just lie elsewhere when it comes to "edged things"

He said he uses Hardox for all his swords. Going to the Hardox site doesn't yield any chemicals makeup info. Just a bunch of "our steel is 3 times better than regular steel". So I dont know what to think of that. Seems to work just fine for his stuff though... *shrug*

I was in hospital and watched it . Mikes a idiot and his work isn't swords. Show sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope removed from air soon.

It's for mall ninja humor and aimed towards kids, I found myself dozing off throughout the show. Disappointing; I expected Discovery to do better, but they have laid eggs before.

Just watched the recent episode.

"Master welder" using mig to weld:rolleyes:? Hmm, gotta say thats the first time I've seen that.
