Discovery Channel - Big Giant Swords

I view the whole show as one big "For every pig, there is a pig xxxxxx." You fill in the blank, this is a family forum.

It's just like any other TV show, it's entertainment first, everything else second.

Hey if it makes him money, then why not?

"Master welder" using mig to weld:rolleyes:? Hmm, gotta say thats the first time I've seen that.
That's what I call Mad Skillz. ^ :D
I used to build aluminum trailers for the big rigs, always signed my initials on the tailgate with the mig.

Pattern/mosaic welding is a little beyond me though. ;)

Not my thing but he's having a lot of fun doing it. I saw part of his live Q&A on YouTube yesterday. He seemed like a cool guy, not too crazy. His priorities just lie elsewhere when it comes to "edged things"

He said he uses Hardox for all his swords. Going to the Hardox site doesn't yield any chemicals makeup info. Just a bunch of "our steel is 3 times better than regular steel". So I dont know what to think of that. Seems to work just fine for his stuff though... *shrug*

Here's a link to the chemical makeup. Nothing special I can see, basically looks like 1050 with more nickel and a few extra goodies. As regards hardness/toughness, just about every alloy out there used in blades is "3 times better than regular steel"- as what is considered "regular steel" is plain old 1018 alloy.
Here's the link.

Looks like a good alloy for big giant swords that have welded parts!

The crew seems cool and fun to watch. Jamie could play with my hammer, even the one on my tool box:)And because it's swords, I would be drawn in. Although I'm not to fond of the projects. The just seem to unrealistic to me. Funny considering I have played video games with stuff like this. They look like the belong on fight bots.
