"Discreet" carry Khukuri

That turned out nicely! I tore down the scabbard to my last purchase and was going to remove the accessories, and recover to slimline the kukri for pack carry. I ended up tearing the original leather near the tip of the scabbard to the point I couldn't salvage it. Ended up making a Maple scabbard that I like so far, but the frog needs work on it.

I'd like to echo Cliff 355's questions if I may.

Sarge, I'll be looking at your work when it comes time to fix up my new Bilton.

Couple questions, sarge: Did you shave any horn off that handle, and if so - how did you polish it back up? Also, how did you install the ridge around the scabbard to hold the frog? This looks like a pretty good outfit.

Yes, I definitely reshaped the handle (compare it to the handle of a 12" AK off the HI website). Horn can be readily carved, filed, sanded, and polished, it's no big deal. Do your rough cutting/shaping, then work down through progressively finer grits of sandpaper (ending at 2000 grit). Finish off with a trip to the buffing wheel, or, do what I do, Flitz metal polish on a piece of leather. Buff while you watch your favorite TV show, by the time it's over your handle will shine like a new dime (finish off with a coat of Hooflex, rubbed in and excess wiped off).

The ridge around the scabbard is a narrow strip of 8 ounce cowhide glued to the scabbard with Fiebing's leather glue prior to applying the outer skin of new leather.

Hope I've been of service.

45-70, I believe the term "traveling" means putting a certain distance between you and your home...for example, with firearms it means crossing county or state lines.

Sarge, regarding the 3" size limit...the school districts' code of conduct now includes the "over 5 1/2 inches" statement. Individual schools, however, can amend the statement but cannot impose punishment which would include district resources. BTW Sarge, I loved the treatment on this 12" AK...wish I were as handy.

Great thing about "going hunting" here in Texas...you can do it all the time. :D
