Discussion about the Spyderco Military

Belly, people have different hands, you've proven the Military is not for you. Don't risk being cut for the love of a design. I have had a similar problem with a different knife and gave it away to someone who it won't open on. If you like the Military, the Endura has similar blade shape and length but with a lock back.

The CPMD2 Military was my first Millie. I got it about 2 weeks back. I love the knife, the design is great (grip a little weird to get used to at first). The blade was bent when closed, so it went to the doctors in Colorado... can't wait to get it back. I think it is a very sturdy knife for cutting, I don't pry or twist or squeeze it like it's a stress bag, and I don't have any trouble. If Sal is monitoring this thread, I want to say that I would buy a Compression lock Millie as well. I think everyone in this thread buying one will just about cover the retooling :D.

I must say though, that it has not beat out my Manix yet for a hard work knife. There are qualities in a sturdy lockback that other knives lack (and I'm a huge Axis fan).

I avoided the Military for the longest time until I decided to 'test the waters' and tried a BG423 version. After looking at other versions, the BG42 version is the best, IMHO. The current s30V, G10 version isn't shabby either.

Both versions I've used for regular cutting chores, cutting small branches, food prep and whatever I wanted to do to see just how good the entire knife was. I found it definitely deserves the rep.

If you do decide to get another Military, treat yoourself and get the BG42 version, it's definitely worth it.

The Millie is one of only 2 knives that I have multiples of, the other is the large Persian. I use mostly and I like to sample so I tend to have a small collection. Have bought 3 millies, a regular (with Military on the blade), a S30V CF version that was donated to a deserving customs agent, and a BG42 CF that was bought after all the hub bub of how great it was (thanks Joe! ;) ). And it is so good I'd be parting with cash as we speak for the CPM D2 version if I wasn't saving for a Simonich, or a CRK, or maybe a Lambert. I tend to like the millie alot just as it is and likely there is another one or two in my future.
