Who puts their Spydies in the dishwasher?

I have been doing it for years . It even solves issues some spydercos come with (ie lock stick, blade play and stiff opening) it seems to fix it and everything runs smooth.

I never heard of doing it except me. Anyone else dare to regularly put there spyderco through full cycles in the dishwasher?

It takes 20 seconds to wash it under a faucet, so no.

yEAHHH, but it doesn't get them AS clean that way.

I think the heat has something to do with fixing things like lock stick. Numerous washes with detergent even polishes out scratches from a blade and the clip.

I have done it a hundred times or so on some knives. Try it!

However I Would not recommend it with knives that have those tiny plastic captured bearings (flippers) or anything else that high heat will destroy. I even wash my CRK Sebenzas in the dishwasher (no plastic parts there) and the dishwasher cleans it out so well. I also love how Zytel handles that are black turn a forest green color after several high heat washes. I love that green color which is unique to my Spydercos black handled knives. Also wears off the black painted pocket clip paint to make a perfectly stonewashed looking ti.

I guess my secret will stay with me as most don't think outside of the box.......or rather the dishwasher.:)

I've read that the detergent is too aggressive for good knives so I wash them by hand and blow them out with compressed air.

I don't see what it does negatively. I just noticed after several careless washes and so many 2-3 hour dishwasher cycles my knives inprove. They seem to love it as they turn out well centered, no lock stick and clean as heck.

They may be older used knives but the washing machine proccess works almost too well. The knifes I put through (like the PM2) falls free and is super slick and does not need any oil. The lockstick disappears and the knife just feels tighter. Never had one loosen and never had to do anything except sharpen.

Dishwashers don't get very hot, about 160°~170° max. Typical faucet hot water is 120°~125°.

Dishwasher detergents may contain corrosive salts, bleaching agents, even sand, that will damage some metals over time.

Never, not under any circumstances. I don't even put my kitchen knives in the dishwasher. Dish soap and dish detergent are very, very different. Dish detergent is caustic stuff. I just don't want it on, in or near my knives. It is caustic enough to dull an edge and it will certainly remove whatever lubricant you have on it. If it works for you then keep at it but I have never needed to and can think of a few reasons why I wouldn't want to.

Who would have thought a cycle in the dishwasher would center a blade!!!!!;)

So the dishwasher changes the frn color from black to green?

Eventually it does. Does not happen until quaite a few washes. Probably from the heat and chemicals in the soap.

Also look how nice the clip comes out. No scratches. The black paint comes off over several washing and leaves the nice titanium finish (not sanded or polished off).

I tell ya this dishwasher fixes things. I have 4 Salts I put through and they don't have any blade play. The heat seems to expand the FRN and keep everything ticking. My G10 knives also get more appealing with several washes and stay super smooth (oil just gums then up and slows them down).

As far as metal being worn off. I have a black coated blade Military I been putting thru for a few years and the black coating does not wear off. Just looks like black chalkboard and even color.

Hahahahaha , yeah didn't you guys know that throwing your Spyderco in the dishwasher centers the blade ? And it fixes every other problem your knife suffers from too. Actually , this is the method CRK uses for its spa treatment. Dishwashers are magic !

Hahahahaha :D

Better edgeholding too. ;)
I even heard of a guy who put his Delica in the dishwasher and when he opened it back up there was an Endura! :D

I put in a Stretch and got out a Delica, the dry cycle must have shrunk it. :)
