Additional post to say that AMK looks very nice for the price. Next though I want a dedicated horizontal grinder with all different size contact wheels. The AMK one looks nice with that as well...

I had the Baldor motor on my Hardcore grinder crap out after only 10-11 years. There are plenty of other less expensive motors available. The AMK looks like a great machine and a good price. It uses a inexpensive motor and extrusions for the base which keeps the price down.
Tru grit machine uses a Leeson or Baldor motor and the base is CNC machined which increases the price
I looked at the Nielson disc system it is great, but pretty price at $240 for the hub and $65/ disc.
Using the 3m repositional spray really makes paper changes easy.

I was surprised as well, it was the older DC motor and they went to a AC with a inverter, that I have on it now I might have that backasswards.? ————————I had John , Scott’s dad at Tru-grit do the swap out because I had never opened the Hardcore grinder and with the Internal timing belt & direct drive. I wanted it done by someone that had done it before .....It took a while to find someone that would fix the old one.. it wasn’t the same, I used it to power the KMG and sold both headaches with full disclosure.Well that is surprising. I have had Baldor motors over 20 years that ran great.
Leeson and Baldor have great reputations and with what we do run out is very important and I have seen a lot of run out on less expensive motors.
I do have an "Elxtra Max motor" I got from Wayne Coe and it has been a real work horse and runs true.
What ever motor being used it has to have no run out especially for a disc grinder.
I use one from HF. They have one were you tap it for on, then tap it for off. They also have one that you have to keep your foot on to go and lift your foot for off.AVigil Adam, not sure if you saw my earlier question to ya, but did you simply use one of those "plug and play" foot switches (like the kind guys use for their mounted portabands), or did you have to wire one directly into your vfd? I remember asking Jose (of Pheer Grinders) this when I got mine years ago about whether or not I could just simply plug one into it, because I was worried it might mess up the vfd somehow, but at the time he wasn't sure whether or not it would work. I'm not great at figuring our electronics, although I can easily connect wires, it's knowing what goes where that's the hard part lol. Thanks

The disc grinder I had was stolen by Palo Balzano, If he ever asks to use your shop? Say HELL NO! ————————-The disc was great for flattening Flat grinds, Tangs and wooden scales prior to doing a few figure eights on a granite or glass piece with 220 grit paper before finally assembly of the scales. —————I had the 1 degree disc and that means you can run longer blades on it! Get the reverse switch. I still have the Disk attachment for my Hardcore Grinder but the motor, while variable speed, doesn’t have a reverse switch .. Hope this helps... PS, I wouldn’t look to a disc grinder for doing profiling work , unless you to do some fine finishing work? I would use one of my 2 x 72 grinders and a 36 grit ceramic belt with the motor at full speed. I’ve had my set patterns all Water Jet cut for the last 10 years so I Only profile a few knives a years now for special requests...
