Well my girlfriends washingmachine is close to passing on.
But the motor still runs, so I was thinking about a next project.
Would it work if I'd take out the motor and use it to power a disk sander?
If I'd have a disk sander I want a good one with a table infront of it that can be raised, lowered and be set at an angle.
Can you buy hardware like that? Does anybody have an address for me, please? (www)

that motor probably wont have enough horsepower to work right. tried on many years ago and it was a waste of time.

I.ve been using one for years works good can be wired for two speeds and reverse it just wont die.and you can,t beat the price.

I believe washing machines usually have something like 1/2 hp. Whether or not thats enough, I don't know.

the one i had bogged down real bad when i tried using one for my sharpening wheels which are only 1" wide and 8" in diamater. that was about 16 years ago so they might have improved the motors by then.

I have used the motors from treadmills, they are usually like new, and have spring loaded clutches to make them variable speed if you are using a belt drive.
One can usually get them at the dump, the older ones have better enclosed motors.
