Hello folks,

After 5+ years of searching, I finally secured my personal grail knife, a Matt Diskin Fire D/A.

Upon receiving, I have unfortunately discovered that there seems to me to be a manufacturing defect. In the location on the frame where the thumb studs interface with the frame to create lockup in the open position, it seems there is missing relief machining on one of the frame slabs. The other slab looks fine and has the relief cut to interface with thumb stud.

It seems that over time during this knife’s life, the force of automatic opening and thumb studs slamming into this area on the frame has 1) created a dent in this TI slab and 2) bent the thumb stud on the corresponding side of the blade to create enough clearance to allow lockup.

In searching photos/videos of other Diskin Fires, this is not typical and seems to be a defect.

Given how hard examples of this model are to track down, I really would like to keep the knife and get it repaired rather than sending it back to the dealer. I know these knives were made ~10 years ago so I’m really curious if any warranty support is available.

My first thought was to reach out to Matt Diskin via instagram DMs, but his inbox is closed to people he doesn’t follow. Additionally, the website he lists in his bio on Instagram seems to be a dead link, so no way to contact him through there.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to get in touch with Matt to inquire about warranty support?

Thanks,
Phyx
