Just displaying kukris in any mannner makes for interesting conversation. I have seen some really beautiful edged weapons displays and am always impressed. One of my favorite things is to see associated pieces with the knives. Books, badges, documents, maps, etc. I just don't want to put the owner out by asking to closely examine a piece and have him go through a major deconstruction. Of course he can always tell me to just piss off.
There was some question a while back about protecting the blades and any steel. I personally recommend Renaisance Wax. It's good stuff and you don't have to use a lot of it. Wood just likes to be handled and maybe gets a light wax or oiling once a year. Handle your knives guys, they like it! I also dust all the displayed pieces frequently and the rest are kept in an old anthropology case that was built in 1910 for the Universityof Texas in Austin. The drawers are the perfect depth, have locks and are lined with felt. The thing is huge with 28 drawers, 8 ft long, 19" deep and 42" high. It was a nightmare getting it up the 88 stairs, but it's perfect.
You can see I have a lot of time on my hands since I'm still not running any marathons because of this old and abused back. I did have a 'nerve block' procedure monday which was absolutely no fun. I'm about at 50%, still hobbling, uncomfortable and hoping not to see Dr "Needles" again. Doc said the steroids take about a week to really kick in so we shall see. Until then thanks to you all for the prayers and good wishes. They really help.
