We are representing the Buck Collectors in Las Cruces at the Convention Center by displaying our collection. DM

Very cool David! I am sorry I will be missing this show now that they got me stationed up here in Colorado. :(

Thank you 110.
Thanks Tony.
Appreciate your encouraging words, Dave.
Kim, we understand. We'll miss seeing you and your lovely wife. Plus, thank you for your service. My oldest has remained stationed at Ft. Hood and my youngest is in AFROTC at university. We are running to the show. Best wishes. DM

Well, a couple years ago I went down there with him and he let me put up my display on 'his' table (he paid to have it.) And let me say, at this gun show tables are sought after and hard to get. I have wanted to go back but trying to get two tables together is a hard, almost impossible task because of demand.

David talks to everyone and sells the ideas of Buck knife history and collecting to anyone who shows interest. Lots of people in that area know him and a couple of his friends as ' the ' Buck Knife people.

Are you a Buck Knife 'people' in your area ? Be sure to show photos or tell you adventures if you are....

David great display. I wish we had collectors like you in New England. Quick story, last year I was inquiring about a NCCA (Northeast Cutlery Collectors Association) knife show. I talked to the president and he said that no one displays buck knives let alone a BCCI table. I encourage anyone (with a much more extensive collection-than mine) in the area or willing to travel to be the buck person for these shows. It would be great to see buck people in NE shows.

Thanks for displaying David. You are a great representative for Buck and the collectors club. Thank you for all you do.

Nice display.

Desert, Thank you.
Gedd, Thanks for these encouraging comments.
Craig, Thank you. We had a great time when you came. Gents, I have some items I need to tend to but we have sooo much fun talking Buck knives at these shows. I'll write more later. Here's my better half and the other side of the display knives. You must get tired of seeing my mug on here. DM

Thank you gsea and thanks for this story.
Gedlicks, thank you. We try hard to put our best foot forward. Even when some downers drop by to bash.
Bertl, It means a lot just to hear encouraging words from you guys. When I know some here have better collections than mine. DM

Looking good David. That collection is outstanding. You have a lovely Mrs as well :)

Good post young fella ;)

Thanks Doug on both accounts. I fielded the usual questions: patrons wanting to know the date of their knife, what steel is their blade and when was the model introduced. Then I sharpened a few knives for some folks. I try to save them and Buck the time and cost of shipping a knife back and forth. If they bring it to me and drop it off and continue looking around the show, I'll sharpen it for them while they shop. Some guys look me up every show for this. As I always bring my stone and strops. If it's a Buck I treat them just like the company would and charge only for other brands. So many don't know the art. If you know how to sharpen don't think light of it. Plus, hunting season is on and their favorite knife is dull... Some want to know more about Buck, the company and if their knives are still made in the U.S.A.. This usually comes up at shows. 'Then why do we see thus and so at Wally?' Only us guys on the Forum belabor over heat treating, handle material and whether it's the correct sheath. Another one I never hear, is 'my blade is not centered'. Or 'my blade got loose'. At these city shows patrons have never seen an assembled collection of Buck knives. Perhaps they'd find one at a big show, 2 days drive away. So, to stumble onto this causes them to stop and stare. Then remark, 'I never knew Buck made those!' It's a hoot and so much fun. DM

Thank you kindly Mr. and Mrs. Desert Dave for the annual show update. You two look terrific. Love to see your top drawer displays with all those hard won pieces of knife history. The acquisition of each has a story that I would like to hear. Which was the most difficult to get?

Oregon, Thank you. There is a barrel nut 105 in the fixed blade display that I was able to get 3 years ago with the original sheath. That took some looking and $$$. Then in the folder display there is a Buck* 110 that I acquired this year. Which I got at a good price after I helped the owner clean out his garage. DM

Rest of the story.

David and I were trying to make a Buck (two table) display area. With overhead banner, handouts, the whole works. Its a long days drive for me to get there but so what. But, this is a Lions club gun show and is so popular a single table costs over $100 for the the two days. He was doing it so I said OK also. But, he has to go stand in line this last Friday morning in order to 'try' (demand is high) and reserve me a table for NEXT year, and then they can only give us a table vacated by someone else and pay in advance for next year. So we can't have our displays together and that sort of takes the wind out of the sail. I might try one Lions Club member, me, to the club President down there and see if I can't get them to put us together and we would have a fancy display, likely worth a newspaper photo....the story will go on. It is a good gun show and the other BCCI/Forum/Buck guys in the area are great also...
