Dissapointing Spyderco experience or am i too anal?

Sorry, I have to say it.

I really do not like this sort of thread. I can easily see how some could develop feelings of resentment from this, and others may "learn" to never voice their concerns or criticisms lest they be satired.

Some complaints may seem ill founded, but I am not sure this is healthy for our community.

It is a slippery slope folks.

I understand your point and agree - I think - but a lot of people don't read beyond the subject line in the forum message list. I'd consider editing it, even if just adding "(Humor)" or something like that so people don't think there's yet another crank spouting unbelievable, unrealistic and uneducated blather about things that are of no consequence in real life. :(

It should probably be in whine and cheese and not the Spyderco forum in the first place.

The last thread on quality control the knife scratch was a little silly. But if it says to use the rods in the base the way he showed then the rods rocking back and forth ARE an issue. Its funny how there were 2 pages of people telling him he was crazy but as soon as people pointed out you are supposed to be able to use it where he had them then everyone shut up. Just sayin'...

I enjoy some satire! Sometimes we just need to laugh at ourselves. This is a hobby, it is supposed to be fun.

First thing first, you should have measured the hardness of your dog's teeth.
Then send doggy to Spyderco where they will QFog your rottweiler and check if he/she can rust...
Then they can hired him (or her) at the quality control.
(Knowing Spyderco uses mainly Boxers and Golden Retriever for Q Chew !)
I don't see any other alternative.
Sal? Anyone ?

The thread was ment to be funny. I don't see why i can't post anything funny in the spyderco forum?
Imho Quality issues should be dealt with in a private manner with Spyderco. If customer service fails to deal with it correctly you could send a PM to Kristi or Sal.
Sal is someone who frequently visits this forum and the Spyderco forum as well.
I have seen most of the quality issues raised on the forum. I am convinced that all real quality issues were solved.
This post could act like some form of "peer pressure" against raising quality questions, but the same thing applies to the QC posts as well.
As a serious Spyderco collector the quality posts raised some serious concerns with me.
I honestly have some doubts about the quality control of spyderco, not because of my own experience but due to all those posts.
To be honest i doubted my eyesight when i saw the picture off the "deep scratch" on the blade, in this post http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=729154
I asked my wife if she saw a scratch. I couldn't see a scratch at all. Neither could she.
This forum reaches thousands of customers. Continously posting threads about quality problems could ruin a company.
The sad fact is that most of these posts aren't about real quality problems but about customers with high expectations that were disappointed about the response. If customers want a full warranty they can have it. But this means that you will pay 30 or 40% more for each knife to cover the warranty other customers expect.
So we should balance the right of free speech with the responsability of having the capability to ruin customers trust in a company.
Just my 2 cents

Thank you for clearing that up. Don't give up your day job.

So when someone contacts customer service and gets shot down they should track down the owner of the company and beg for special treatment? Or they could post their experiences here for others to see and put in their input on the situation. So what you're also saying is that Spyderco doesn't have a full warranty? I guess Kershaw who has one of the best warranties out there and who's knives cost less on average are doing something that should technically be impossible? Forums are for everyone to discuss what is going on and what should be done and what is right. There is no one person who has been voted to make all those decisions. Because of that I see nothing wrong with the discussions that take place here among all members. There will always be people who don't like some things that are said but unless they are personally attacked they will just have to put in there 2 cents and get over it.

I'm surprised this thing is still open, along with the other "native and sharpmaker" thread. These are detracting from the forum in general.

Very well said, FMB. E-mailing Steve Jobs worked for me when my E-Mac had a problem a few years ago. Without folks posting on the Mac forums I'd have never known that there was a known problem with faulty resistors, nor what to do to get it resolved. Customer Service wasn't very helpful, but an e-mail to the CEO actually worked.

And that's exactly what Jim malone did. He put in his two cents. He gave his opinion on some of the drama and high expectations many of us have been  about. He never told anyone they couldn't overstate their case. He just had fun overstating his.

I can't believe a joke I picked up on in the second line got past so many people, even now, even after he explained it. :D

I certainly realize that this is a joke. I also realize that most likely the intent is to say that many of us beat the hell out of our knifes and could not care less about a lot of character marks/scratches/broken tips/uneven grinds/chewed up handles/sharp burs in the spyderhole/etc. That is fine and I share these sentiments entirely.

However, if you view this thread from the desktop of someone who recently posted one of these complaints, PERHAPS you could mistake this as a satire of yourself? May be even some of these new members who are already stinging from a litany of posts disagreeing with their feelings regarding their situations could view this thread as a personal attack?

I am sure no one intended to hurt anyone's feelings, but I see the potential for it and that was why I mentioned it.

I agree with this entirely, but I think some could view this separate thread as a veiled personal attack on their right to question the fit/finish/whatever on their recent purchase.

I am not trying to agitate anyone here. If I am out of line, I will go away. I just wanted to urge caution in the event that everyone did not consider the feelings that some may leave with. And personally, I am not sure I want every person that complains about CS/fit/finish/whatever to LEAVE. I think it is productive to share opinions and occasionally tell people that their expectations are higher mine (and perhaps the makers)...that is why many places have return policies, warranties, and limitations on those warranties. As I said, perhaps I am wrong....feel free to tell me so.

Even here on BF, Esav....some people just aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

+1
I like this idea. Golden Retriever at Spyderco Quality dept need to be replaced with bulldogs and rottweilers just to satisfied some customers.

Lighten up.

It was CLEARLY a joke from the first sentence or two.

Dang...that rottweillers got more smarts than some on here I guess...

...at least he knew which end to chew on.

I for one have not had my faith shaken in Spyderco. They keep putting out better and better knives.

Probably shoulda been in Whine and Cheese but its NO BIG DEAL.

Have a great Easter.

I hope my thread about my spyderco knife question wasn't seen as anal/too picky '

the part about your doggie chewing the knife made me laugh :D and the pic, not sure why
