Dissappointed with my Custom Shop 110

My Custom Shop 110 arrived today.

Many good things about it, scales look good and match well. Blade is centered and locks up tight.

However, the front bolster has a flat spot on it where it should be round and has tool markings on the flat spot. The rear bolster also has tool marks on it but not nearly as bad. I think I can buff them out myself, but don't think I can round out the flat section as it should be.

I was going to order a pair for my sons to set back. Not sure about that now.

I'm not expecting perfection for the price it cost. However, I don't expect obvious tool marks on the bolsters either.

May take photoes later but not sure the marks will show.

I am still a Buck fan. Had just hoped for better on my first custom shop buy.

I just went for a run and pulled it out of the box after I got home. I think I over-reacted a bit. There are marks on it that shouldn't be there but I'm pretty sure I can fix them.

Wish they weren't there, but it's not as bad as I initially thought.

I really like the knife and it's a great deal for the price.

Mav,
I'm sure Joe would make it right. I think I can fix it though.

Pics Please!!!!!!!!!! :)

Please post some pic's. So Joe can see what QC missed going out the door. If you are not satisfied let Joe and Buck know so they can make you a happy camper and stop any more knives going out the door with the same issue.

Hi ohen cepel,

Do you have a scanner you can get at? You can make good close-up shots that way. I like what I can see of the Elk stag....very nice. Is it going to be a user???

JB,
I think it'll be a user due to the marks on it. Also, I'm trying to trim down the pile of knives that I don't use and just keep the users. Need to bump my membership back up here so I can have a big sale here soon.

I like it a lot. I think only things I would have done different would be to get the brown leather sheath and maybe finger grooves on it.

I'll try to scanner thing. However, I'm not real competent with techno things so I won't make any promises.

Crap, just now playing with it I remembered that they didn't ship me the One-Armed-Bandits that they said would be with it. Aaarrrrggggghhhh:mad:

Need to get some of those elsewhere now.

Well, I downloaded the pic and gamma-corrected it...I can see the front rivet and your fingerprint, but I don't see any tool marks...

You sure they weren't marks from the packing rubbing on the polished brass??? ("Nickel Silver" is actually brass). ;)

Well, I tried to polish the machine marks out, lightened up some of them but the worse ones are still visible. Not as bad but still there.

Cut myself in the process, bonus points:)

Chickentrax- they are tool marks, I'm sure of that. They were deep enough for your finger nail to catch on them, polishing made them less so.

I'm getting over it. Worse will occur when I use it.

Here is a pic of the knife. I'm afraid that I don't have the skills to get the machine marks in the pics. Keeps coming out blurry. Sorry about that.

It is a good looking knife other than the marks and will be a great user. Will try to polish the machine marks out once the kids go to bed tonight.

Ohen,
I would recommend you send it in to Buck and give them the opportunity to make it right. If you aren't satisfied with it that will be good enough for them.
Mike

This doesn't make a lot of sense. Of all places......you wouldn't think a custom shop would leave machining marks. Are they so swamped with work that they have to rush them out before they're done?

When people get tired of sending things back and waiting six weeks while it gets fixed......they start buying where it gets done right the first time.

More efficient to ease up on production demands and not have to deal with so many returned for finishing.
