I had the same rant a year ago, but sighning up over there.

just do a different e-mail service, then change the address in your prefrences.
 
I agree that the posts on the other board are out of line. But then, hey why can't a person use a Hotmail account here? Hotmail has been my main email service ever since I quit AOL. I seems AOL actually charges money to use the internet!! They have a lot of nerve.

Hotmail allows a person to check his or her email from any computer hooked up to the internet. Very convenient if you travel.

Anyway, to get this back on topic. I use Hotmail whenever I email someone about knives.
 
The avenger is way ****ed up. I've been registered here for at least a year and haven't received any spam. If Mike WAS actually selling out our e-mail addresses, he'd be rich by now

Nothing has changed since the last time this came up -

Our reason for disallowing Hotmail has been the same since the day we stopped new registrations from them - Every time we allow Hotmail.com addresses we get a flood of trolls and flamers who don't want to follow the site rules. Since Hotmail is apathetic at best at taking action against users who abuse their TOS, we banned Hotmail.com. There are plenty of other free email services out there...

Second, we do not sell member email addresses, nor do we plan to, ever. Don't know where that came from, but someone clearly doesn't know what they are talking about.

Third, if you want to be unsubscribed from our mass mailing list, you simply change your profile to do so - you can do this at any time, 24 hours a day. Some people even specify that they don't want to be on our mailing list when they sign up for an account with BladeForums.com... and we put unsubscription information on each mass mailing we send out.

Fourth - we strongly support member privacy, which is why we enabled the "email privacy" features as soon as they became available. Any member can turn stop their email address from being publically visible, just by changing their profile settings.

BladeForums.com has always been the leader when it comes to member services, privacy protection, and customer support.

The "other" thread is just another example of people "rising" to the occasion... Remember, if you have a problem with anything we do, or want to know why we do something, please feel free to ask us and we'll be happy to explain our reasoning.

Actually, I voiced my support for NO FREEMAIL accounts at all as a matter of control of anonymity. Still, doesn't prevent people with realmail e-address from ripping people off too.
 
I know what Spark says is true, not because I know him or have any data, but Hotmail is the biggest hiding place for people who need an email address that can't easily be traced. Not that there aren't plenty of fine upstanding hotmailers, I've got an address (well I might not be fine, or upstanding come to think of it), but those who seek to cause problems and need an email address go straight to Hotmail.

I can imagine you get a whole slew of bad apples when you open a service like this up to those masses.

All those guys who claim they need a seperate email account for forums like this need to read the member services from whatever internet provider they have. Most of them allow more than one email account per internet account. My family only has one acount with ameritech.net and we have 4 different email accounts going under ameritech.net . Not on those hotmail type sites either, they are all registered official accounts with ameritech. You definitely aren't limited to hotmail when it comes to extra email addresses.

I have no idea what Tim's problem is with me or what I have ever done to him.

For a guy who is 5'9" and only weighs 145lbs he may want to be careful who he pisses off. Luckily it takes a lot more than a stupid post to piss me off

Sometimes people have frustating days and do things they later regret. I know I have but can't think of anything I have done to him.

Spark covered the reasons why we do not allow Hotmail. Sometimes we have to do things that at first glance seem unfair but that is why this site works and the less headaches I have the better off we will all be.

Jim is correct and we do things different. Like he said neither is right or wrong, just different. The really cool thing is how well both sites run with the incredible diverse communities we have. We have people from every part of the planet, different religions, races, sex and maybe an alien or two. But we all seem to share the common love of knives and this common ground is what makes this place work.

Keeping it running is mine and Sparks job. If there is a better way to run this place, we are all ears. Funny how a simple email or phone call could have keep this at bay.

Hotmail is one of only a few domains that I have had so much spam, tons of spam, from and have had absolutely no help from the administrators at, that I have had to put the entire domain in my kill file. If you e-mail me from hotmail, I will never even see it. This is a radical thing to do, to kill file an entire domain, but it is the only thing that has given me relief from hotmail.com spammers.

If you live in a well-known brothel because the rent is cheap, then don't be surprised if people assume that you are a protitute even if you are not. It's the company you keep.

Hotmail has brought this reputation upon themselves by tolerating and even welcoming spammers.

There are plenty of other places on the net where you can get low-cost or no-cost web-based e-mail.

Before I registered at bladeforums.com, I e-mailed the administrators there and asked if they would be distributing my e-mail address. They assured me that they never have and never will sell, rent, or distribute that list. I have never received a single piece of spam that I thought was related to bladeforums.com.

How would you do it???? There is no way you can tell whether @logis.cz or @atlas.cz are freemail or regular e-mail addresses. I use many freemail addresses because I do not have access to my logis address over the weekend. I have my mail forwarded to my freemail (so I can answer it) and even to my cell phone (so I know that I got an e-mail).. There is no way you can ban freemail accounts - simply you are not able to recognize them...

Mike and Spark keep up the goood workkk. I haven't been aroound much but still sneak in once in awhile and you are still doing a good job of it. Even if some of us aren't.But I do appreciate the bfc and the job you guys do.Also I have never gotten any fourm related spam yet and don't expect to. Thank You

David, you have a point. Even if Spark or Mike were to ban all current freemail accounts, at the rate domain names are coming up, it would be hard to keep track. I do disagree that it would be impossible, just really time consuming. I think except for present company and select others like keninshiro, all major free-mail accounts like hotmail, yahoo, metacrawler, excite, could be banned. Like you I use freemail to check my account mail from any terminal but I do have real e-mail addresses that have a stronger association to me than a freemail account.

Gotta love it!!

Hotmail is only the middleman. That spam is sent from outside and bounced off their servers.

Only thing that cracks me up more is when people start in on how Netscape is sooooo much more stable and well written than IE.
