Dive Knife Handle Material for Buoyancy?

I know this is an old thread, but I worked with foamed PVC this week. They have it in board format of 1x6, 1x8, and 1x10 at Lowes. Not sure if you ever made this knife. I tested some of the Foamed PVC, and it was not enough to make the knife bouyant when I replaced my dive knife handle with it. It did make it a couple ounces lighter, though. I haven't dived in years, so I couldn't try any crush tests at depth. The material is real soft, almost like balsam wood but is very difficult to break in half.

If your interested(your probably not), my project with the material was a new aquarium canopy for a 55 gallon show tank for my shop. I just bought it used and the canopy was oak. Dry-rot to the point of the plywood separating. The PVC wood is very light, and of course, waterproof. Not quite as sturdy as the oak but very sharp looking and should hold up to the aquarium moisture perfectly.

Nahh haven't made it yet. I don't have a dry suit, and 7mm wet suit season is about at an end...it's just getting to cold. So it will be something that I will readdress next spring. I've got other projects in the work now.

If you want a piece just let me know. I have a piece 3.5" x 47" x 3/4"(needed 48" for the aquarium.) I can cut it in about 15 seconds. Might be something fun to test with next spring. I could mail it to you or bring it to Ashokan.
