I'm putting together a local fund raiser so I was digging though my drawers in the workshop for goodies and found this....

Any idea of what is a good price?.... don't want to be too outrageous but then I don't want to give it away... even for a good cause... I picked it up years ago and I'm the first owner... never used it... just sat in drawer gathering dust and dings....:D

I have no idea what it should be sold for but it looks mighty unique. I can't wait to hear the story associated with this piece.

I don't know what it would go for but can you say R A R E?

I'm surprised but I guess I haven't seen one offered from Spyderco in a while....

I'd be interested in the story behind it as well.... found it by mistake... I wrapped it up in some tool paper and forgot about it.... it was a surprise to me when I found it....

Anyone else got any thoughts?

As you've already discovered, it's a Spyderco Dive Probe. One of several items that resulted from Sal's interest in diving. They did not sell well, probably due in part to the limited market for abalone harvesting tools. Price, and other factors may have played a role as well. From what I've read, there may also have been some manufacturing difficulties. There is some collector interest in them, although not as strong as that in the more "conventional" older models. I'd guesstimate that, in the condition yours is in, one would probably fetch somewhere between $150 and $200 on eBay. If you still have the original surgical tubing lanyard that attached to the hump on the handle it would be worth even a bit more.

Thanks Deacon.... That's helpful.... and good background... at least now I can put a price tag on it for the fund raiser....
