Some time ago Hollow Dweller asked me to post some pictures of the handles on my Diving Sparrow knives that would show some sort of perspective as related to the hand. Well I have been remiss in getting the camera out to do it until last night, so here they are:

With the Northern Bushcraft/Survival (NBS)

Finally with the Savannah Jr. as an example of Abe's smaller handles; still hand filling and gripable.

Sorry about the bad photo, but the flash failed me. This is all three knives with the dollar to show perspective on handle length.

HD I hope this is what you were looking for, and I'm sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for this post. I'm a new knifemaker and am working quite a bit on refining my handles. I have a tendency (as I understand a lot of makers do at first) to make them too short.

Thanks again,

Charlie

thanks for the pics JJ... the handle on the knife in the last TK write up, looked huge....

Hmmmm. I don't have any like that right now, but I will try to get some together for you. I can tell you the handle on the Savannah is thinner than that on the NBS but not much. In terms of thin/thick, all of Abe's handles are pretty uniform but he can add spacers as you need if you like them thicker. IIRC the knife in Stetzer's article had a couple of spacers inside the handle to make it a bit larger. Mine do not.

I'll try to scale some soon.

I have founs the 4 Diving Sparrow Knives I have owned to be VERY comfortable in use- not over bulky at all, but hand filling and easily controlable. He makes a good product. His sheaths are just as nice as the knives too!

Yeah. I like big handles but side to side the scales looked monster. That's why I wanted to see from the back

I am very concious of how important it is to make the knife as a whole system blade and handle design and execution as one solid utility unit. Keeping that in mind allows me to focus on a comfrtable handle as well as a keen cuuting blade. Given that your satisfaction with the knives as a whole is my up most concern , I take a long time to shape the handle but in the end if you are not satisfied I will work to get the knife to your satisfactyion or refund your money.
The overall look of the knife handle due to the colors in the pictutres might make it look a little bulky but I can assure you I never ship a knife that I am not comfortable with how the handle feels and that is after literally hours of going over it with my own hands in every holding position a knife can be used in. The way I look at it is, if it bothers my grip or I can't get a sold purchase on the handle then I wouldn't pay for such a knife so why should you.

Abe
