I tried to search but had no luck...

Don't one or more of you guys have DLC coated Busses?

Mind showing pics (again).

Thanks.

DLC? Trying to figure that one out - digital camo? Dwarves love cake? Dinosaur lunch cart?

DLC is amazing on knives. Peter Atwood has produced some killer cool little tools that have DLC. My brother owns at least a couple and they are tough. I'd love a DLC coated AD. Maybe when the shop competition winners are announced they'll make the skeletonized AD and offer it with DLC!

Is that similar to the coating offered on some rifles i.e. some Remington models?

Diamond like coating???

Almost, young man.:)

DLC = "diamond-like carbon" It's a class of carbon-based thin-film coatings that do not meet the technical definition of a true diamond coating, but have many similar mechanical and even chemical properties.

They can be quite hard.

Here ya go, DowntownDM... :)

FBM Prototype Bowie with IonBond Diamond Black DLC coating. This was a special request from the guy who bought the FBM from me. Since he lives in Suriname, and IonBond won't ship out of the USA, I got it done for him. It is coated all over, including under the scales, and on the edge bevel. The 'after outside' pic caught the edge bevel reflecting light, which is why it doen't look like it's been coated, but it is, as can be seen in the 'after inside' pic. This was a one-time request that I'll most likely never do again, unless it's for one of my knives! Was kinda hoping that he'd post in-use pix of it, but haven't seen any yet nor heard from him about how well it holds up...

:rolleyes:Ah, yes. Nice and dark. As are almost all DLC. I won't bore you with the reason for that.

If the blade surface was properly cleaned and conditioned, that coating will hold up quite well.

That is super cool! Though I can see how you'd let it go considering you have the coolest one-off Busse ever--the hammered active duty!!!

That coating is hot. And I feel bad for being the only physicist who didn't recognize the acronym.

Then again, there are only two of us, so I guess we need a larger sample size before I feel too bad. :D

I like the idea of the DLC. I have held a 1911 that had it done and it was really a nice finish. Hmmm, is that a combo there waiting to be done???

thanks Jaxx, that's the one. ;)

no, Foo, that's not the one ;)

(interesting though... crazy talon hole mod). I was thinking there was a new-ish SHBM I'd seen, satin, maybe blue-ish handles, maybe liners? perhaps it's not yours? hmmmmm.

Anyone know how it compairs to an NP3 coating? (Nickle Teflon)

Where does one send their knife to have it coated?

I googled it but could not find any place that advertised doing it in that application.
