In my 22 year old post from above I am referring to hardness being affected with short bouts of heat being applied as in sharpening or buffing. When you're talking about baking the knife for 18+ hours that is a totally different story.
Temperatures between 500 and 900 when held for 18 hours could drop the Rockwell hardness by up to 3-4 points! This will not happen if it is only held at these temperatures for a short amount of time.
