DLC coating vs Edge Pro

cbwx34 cbwx34 I posted earlier that I use a lansky. I did not know this was a technique that was recommended for the EP, to be honest I have my eye on a Wicked Edge so I am pretty lacking in the knowledge on the edge pro. The title just caught my eye, it made me think the EP had an issue, which doesn't look like the case. Just people that care about their knives, nothing at all wrong with that.

Ah... didn't catch the Lansky part... but kinda figured you hadn't used the EP. Like I said pretty common.

Thanks for clarifying.

to be honest, it seems like overkill, I've never scarred a blade or finish with sharpening. I mean are you guys really uncoordinated? Asking this kinda joking around, but how are you guys messing up a blade finish while sharpening? I'm not slamming anyone so I apologize if I'm coming off that way, we all have our methods. I'm just curious I guess.

I guess that when I am reprofiling with a WorkSharp, I want to be sure things don't go south, which can happen quickly under power. I am also aware of the amount of grit & shavings produced, and again want to prevent disaster as well as possible contamination marring the blade. Is it overkill? Or am I just an uncoordinated fat cripple? I will give you the unblemished joy of calling that one.

RLDubbya RLDubbya haha nobody was talking about a worksharp, but your scenario makes sense as does taping when using the EP.

Darn it, sorry. I forgot part of my post - and seriously, that is the cognitive decline caused by the cancer. I meant to add in a sentence or two about the amount of grit / shavings produced when manually sharpening using any stone, and how that can contaminate the work surface and cause wear and marring.

And again, a totally serious thanks to you for calling me out on this. I don't like to forget stuff; I do want my points to be relevant and make sense, so if you ever do see me screwing the pooch on something, please recognize that I do greatly appreciate you calling me out so I can provide explicit correction as needed. And if I'm wrong, I want to know that as well.

While I realize that a WS was not part of the original question, I do believe that my answer involving manual sharpening on regular stones applies to the EP scenario. If not, please correct me on that as well, OK?

Tape or no tape, I have trouble with the ramp carrying swarf onto the blade and scratching it, hence I'm often inclined to forgo using the ramp, which leads to stones dishing more quickly. Since I don't sharpen large numbers of knives it's not a big issue.
