DMT Aligner Stones in KME?

I have a KME sharpener on the way. I understand that any 4"x1" stone be used with the KME. I've also read on reddit and a hunting forum that the KME stone holder can be easily modified to hold the 4.25" DMT aligner type pocket stones, but nowhere can I find an explanation of exactly what needs to be done to accomplish this. Can anyone tell me how to do the mod, or point me to link showing or explaining it? Thanks.

Actually the DMT Aligner stones are 4 3/8" (4.375). However I had assumed they would fit the KME system as well, now I'm questioning that assumption I'm sorry to say. Order the KME today so I'll soon find out. If they don't fit I may be returning the KME. The only reason I went with the KME instead of the Edge Pro was that I thought the DMT stones would fit.

Not sure if there's an official way, but in the top photo is a standard stone... it looks like if you remove that silver metal bracket and screw the black knob against the Aligner stone in the bottom photo, it holds just fine. (The aligner stone is 4 3/8").

Haven't sharpened anything with it, but I can't knock it loose, and ran it up and down a blade a couple of times... seemed to work fine.

I'm sure it could be easily modified to better hold if needed without much effort, if for some reason this didn't work.

nick_30, 3/8" is exactly what's needed for the aligner stones to fit. Maybe I can replace the knob with a washer and a wing nut to give the metal bracket a little more travel.

Yes, I think there are ways to free up a little more room that being one of them. There is always a way to make something work for you

Just measured, excatly range the stone holder will accept is 3 7/8" to 4 1/4"
That is with original hardware. I tried flipping the knob around and got the same thing. I really don't think other hardware is going to work as it nullifies the clamping bracket once you get paste the 4 1/4" mark

Is the rod not threaded all the way to the end?

So what's the deal with the dmt plates? How do they differ from the KME diamond plates?

You could always just cut the stone down to size...lol
Might not be economical, but I live in the limestone country of South-Central Indiana and there are plenty of places that have the equipment to do it with ease.

Haha....that's funny...just might be an option
Of course you could probably buy all the kme stones for what they would charge you to cut one

Of course, my other option is to to use a threaded coupling plus a piece of all thread cut to length and then run even longer stones.

Not sure that would work. Look at the pic of the holder, the wood is cut at a angle. This is used as a compression fit for the stones and a support for the metal bracket. If you extended it out futher, the bracket would have no support at the top and would want to flip over the top of the stone.
You have to make a extended support for the top of the bracket as well

I already owned a DMT Aligner when I got my KME. I just use the DMT holder and rod with the KME clamp - works fine.

Well that's just too easy, lol. How close is the DMT holder's rod diameter to the KME holder's rod diameter?
