Well that's just too easy, lol. How close is the DMT holder's rod diameter to the KME holder's rod diameter?
The DMT rod is quite a bit thinner but I dont find it a problem in use.

I already owned a DMT Aligner when I got my KME. I just use the DMT holder and rod with the KME clamp - works fine.

sorry for the confusion I meant why choose the DMT plates over the KME plates? Are they better in some way or just preference?
I also own the DMT but this wouldn't work for me because I simply don't like the DMT stone holder, that's one reason I'm looking for a new system.
Oh I see. Just in my experience the gold series plates are very high quality and work exceptionally well. 25$ isn't a bad price for them either.
My reasoning is the variety of grits DMT offers and their ready availability on Amazon Prime, but the KME plates aren't bad on price. Plus, there's also the fact that KME offers glass plates, so I can get almost any grit I want in the form of silicon carbide and aluminum oxide 1" wide sanding belts.why choose the DMT plates over the KME plates?
My KME was delivered today. The piece that the knob threads onto on the stone holder is just a threaded stud that can be removed with a 1/4" hex wrench inserted down into it. So, all I'll need to is get an identically threaded same OD stud that's just a bit longer to thread in. After that I can use a small finish saw and a drill to make a spacer / stone holder top extension from a piece of scrap wood if needed.
It's loctited in, but with a little effort mine let go.
