Well, I not only got in a Kosters Bushcraft today (this board is costing me MONEY!) but I got in some DMT diaomond 6 inch stones to sharpen it with.

I took the advice of other members on this board and tried my hand at my Mora first. I am glad I did - it is going to take some getting used to - but after about an hours practice that knife is sharper than any edge I have put on it!

I am learning a lot and the three stones (50 dollars total) are a GREAT investment.

I will continue practicing until I feel comfortable and then try my hand at my Kosters. I am having a lot of fun and will post pics soon!

Thanks BF,

TF

if you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase your stones?

i have been looking at DMTs and am looking at a few different models...

sounds like they work well though!

I have a coarse and fine, I use the small fine one a lot for touch ups, about right grit leaves a little tooth but not to much, still cuts wood fine etc. Better than most of the other diamond sharpeners I've had.

For those of you that have used these - do they hange colors and look worn after the first use? Mine look completely different today. I think this is normal though.

I've found that the first few uses will knock some of the obvious newness off it. Even the red was very aggressive when I got it and it took a little while to settle down a stabilize. Beyond that mine just go gray and grubby looking from removed material. Scrub that off.

Incidentally - 3* 6 inch DMTs for $50. Argghh. I paid equivalent to $100 USD each for mine way back when I got them.

Bald - Sorry bro - I found a SMOKING deal on them - Here is the site:

Here is the specific page. I paid online - shipped the same day - and I got it within two days!

EDIT:

I got up the guts to sharpen my Kosters. It has a high spot near the coil that took a little while (Man 3V is hard stuff) but once I got it sharp HOLY CRAP is it sharp! I simply have never had a knife this sharp. The finish is a little rough but I knew it would be going in. The extra fine stone on the DMT kits needs to be supplemented by a ceramic stone - but the edge is SUPER sharp and the stones were easy to use - well at least on a Scandi grind.
