DMT Paste Question

As far as I can tell they are only doing the 2 gram syringes these days.

There are other sources for diamond pastes though...and you can order much larger quantities if desired.

Even the small syringes will last a good while. I'm still trying to re-calibrate my application method when using this compound. I keep applying what seems like a minimal amount to my strops, and always end up wiping a lot of it off afterwards (and then applying that to something else, as a 'backup'; I hate to waste this stuff). And if you use it on balsa or hardwood, I'm finding even less is necessary.

Thanks guys. I was seeing some selling in 5 gram syringes(purportedly DMT) and I was kinda doubting if they were indeed genuine DMT pastes. I was looking at those because I wanted to save on shipping. 2 gram syringes it is then.

I applied some of the 1 micron Dia-Paste to a small 'pocket strop' I made with heavy saddle leather on red oak (1/4" thick). On a whim, I flipped it over and rubbed some of the excess paste on the backside of it, which was already sanded pretty smooth. I noticed the smoother hardwood only would take enough of it to make the surface a little bit shiny, as if waxed. That little bit of 'shine' really made for an effective little strop block. I tested it on an Opinel (12C27Mod), two older Buck 112s (425M and 440C), and a Queen Country Cousin in D2. Works excellently, and used virtually nothing for paste.

Following up on an inquiry to Braemar I rec'd a quote of $30.00 for 18gr syringes - micron ranges 1/10, 1/4, 1, 4, etc. I've used these for lapping and stropping - they work quite well. Any lapidary supply shop will have them too, and those folks use fairly strict grading. I recently made a few strops out of a wool felt polishing belt to switch from crayon type compounds to diamonds. It drank the stuff up - needed a little over 1 gram to cover a 2"x10" strop. I was hoping to do a large one for my machetes - 3"x18" but they'll have to settle for AlumOx - it would probably take another 2gr to cover that much area if I did it with felt.

I did try some diamond paste on balsa but I kinda get better results with leather on a block.
