I sent a e-mail on the DMT website with a request.I would like to see them manufacture a round axe sharpener with coarse on one side and fine on the other with a thick plastic ''sandwich'' between the two grits so it would be about the same thickness as a traditional carborundum stone.This would be a lot lighter and far more durable.I think that with the popularity of axes worldwide,this would be a feasible product and I would dearly love to have one.I would appreciate your thoughts on this,and if you think it's a good idea then DMT might start making them if they heard from others expressing interest.I can only hope.

I think I'd prefer to hold wet n dry in a bit of kit like the below if I wanted a portable. I don't know how compliant the cushion is on that one but I'm sure I could replace it with something better if it was too hard / soft. I think that would be easier to work to a convex.

Doesn't Lansky make one ? I seen a round sharpener for axes ..I think it was Lansky?

You know that's a great idea!
The only possible problem I can see is that I think a lot of people can't seem to sharpen their knives with a stone, hence the popularity of systems and gadgets like the Lansky guide rod thing or the Sharpmaker.
But I would buy three and keep one in every pack and bag I own! I will write as well in support of this idea, I think it's awesome.
My dad never used anything but an old axe puck. Actually, he still has the thing, same stone for about thirty years now I guess.
Actually more than that, he got it before I was born. I guess he's been using it for thirty five years! Every kitchen knife, every axe, everything.
And in fact he found it while picking up somebody's garbage, so man, he's gotten a lot of use out of that free stone!

Thanks for your support misanthropist.I really believe a round puck style diamond sharpener like this would be something worthwhile for those axe users who prefer this type of sharpener.And as you said,it could also be used for knives although axes were what I really had it in mind for.
