Recommendation? DMT stones: continuous vs interrupted surface

It makes sense. Cut production cost and market it as "this works better for you." Sell it slightly cheaper. I believe it.

Except one thing...they do kinda work. My question was really more is there any actual PERFORMANCE difference between these and the continuous. It appears to me the swarf thing is a bogus distraction. So, other differences? Would the continuous actually cut faster? Would they give better tactile feedback? Some of the folks already said no to the last question...

They would at least reduce contact area, so it would increase pressure against the blade.

If anything it would accelerate wear if used with equal effort because you'd be bearing down on the stone with more pressure. But it does mean you can use a lighter amount of force for equal pressure.

Either way I would believe that one could experience years & years of use out of DMT Stones/Plates... Just a hunch. I currently have the F/EF Interrupted 8" Duo Sharp and I am looking hard at the 12 x 3" Dia Sharp Magnabase Setup.

I am considering the magnabase too, as a continuous surface upgrade to my interrupted ones. And hopefully a better feedback/experience when using the stone. Just a side note: if you're considering spending the $$ for the magnabase, you should also look at the 4 stone Atoma sharpening solution (140, 400, 600, 1200) that covers approximately the same capabilities, grits, and costs similar as the 2-stone, 4-grit DMT magnabase solution. I haven't seen hard evidence that one is better than the other, but a few people who have used both seem to slightly prefer the Atoma plates. Given that both solutions you are going to be in the range of $300 to $400, you should check out the Atoma as well and see if you'd like those better.
