What the title says - I just wondered, because of the three models that I have had, they all had half stops. I just wondered from those forumites that have more of these great knives, would let us know. Or if you know of a site that describes which ones have half stops or not, that would be appreciated. This one is my favorite!

Thanks!

My two GEC slippies don´t have half stops. Well, they are both of Tidioute. No Northfield. To Northfield I can say nothing. I don´t own one, til now ;)

KInd regards
Andi

DavidZ: nice knife, but get ye over to The Gallery forum and post more pic's of that side-by-side if you please.

Don't know for sure about the half-stop question, but FWIW both Northfields I own have them.

Of the ones I own, the following don't have half stops:
#33 Conductor
#68 White Owl
#72 Lockback
#66 Cald Roper

I'll add a few #25,#26 and #66's don't....not all #53's have half stops ..the muskrat, furtaker, Cattle Rancher and Cuban Castro don't...the #85 does have half stops

my #12 Northfield Toothpick doesn't have a half stop

my GEC made Northwoods Gladiator (#54 pattern) does have half stops

My Sunfish does not. (I bought the all steel model, with steel bolsters and liners).

I have a couple of different slip joints now with out the half stop, and I believe this may be my preferred construction now!

Below is the list that I know/kept track of. Also, the pattern is what determines if it has half stops, not if its Tidioute/Northfield/GEC.
With Half Stops:
#23 Pioneer
#25 Ez-Open, Jack
#45 Lumber Jack
#48 Trapper, Single Bladed Trapper, Jack
#54 Harness Jack, Cigar Whittler, Big Jack
#61 Congress, Half Congress
#62 Easy Pocket Congress
#65 Ben Hogan
#71 Bull Nose Work Knife
#73 Scout, Jack
#85 Bullet End Jack

Without Half Stops:
#12 Toothpick
#26 Sleeveboard
#33 Conductor
#36 Sunfish
#46 Whaler
#53 Cuban Stockman, Muskrat, Furtaker Trapper
#56 Dogleg Jack
#66 Serpentine Jack, Calfroper
#68 White Owl
#72 Lockback

Mixed:
#57 Geppetto Whittler
#62 Courthouse Whittler
#89 Executive Whittler has Half Stop on main blade but not on secondary blades.

Unknown (by me):
#28 French Kate

Trand,
The 57 Geppetto Whittler falls into the "Mixed" category. I also don't know about the 28's.

Thanks for the list.

The Whaler doesn't have a half stop. I think thats the only GEC that I really like that doesn't have it. I much prefer a knife with half stops, especially if its a large knife.

Thanks guys, I'll update my list. I thought the Whaler did have half stops based on the Lumber Jack since its the same frame just flipped around.

Jim, the 25s both 'Barlow' style Jack and the single blade EZ-Opens I own have half-stops. Maybe the single blade non EZ-Open don't?

Trand's list is comprehensive, not surprising:D

Best wishes, Will

Why do I not find it amazing that no one around here, to my knowledge, has ever posted anything about, let alone acknowledged owning, the infamous #28 French Kate? Heck, if Trand doesn't even have one, I don't know who would. :D

Edited to add: Trand, I didn't mean to imply that you're an indiscriminate buyer of any/all GEC knives; rather that you have a wide ranging taste in, and collection of, GEC knives, but that for whatever reason, you have chosen not to sample the French Kate.

They just don't want to ADMIT to owning and liking it:D:thumbup:

LOL! I've thought about buying one a couple times - not for very long, however ..... just couldn't see actually paying money for it. Who knows, maybe in a hundred years all the dealers inventory will be finally cleaned out, and our great-great-great-great-great grandchildren would inherit a valuable piece of history? Nah! ;)

Sorry to sidetrack the thread. I'll shut up now. :o

Lol, I know what you meant Keith  I thought about getting one in the blue bone but can't bring myself to shell out the cash for one, even at EDC prices. A little telling is that there are still 1 and 2 blade models in Ivory available. Usually the Ivory GECs sell out pretty quick. I DO know some that have gotten one (I won't out them :D) but don't recall hearing if they have half stops or not.
