Ok, I'm sold guys...looks like it's time to start collecting 'Busse Made Knives' too...

alphamaniv, in an attempt to answer your somewhat perplexing question...

My wife Edna and I collect knives, show knives, write about knives, and to a very limited degree sell knives...but more importantly, we try to share what we've learned with others, strip away the hype, speak factually, and help out the novices as they get up to speed...in other words, we're 'knife folks'... :)

My initial post was many fold, to wit; 'Hi, we're here and collecting Busse's now, and we'll need your help making the right choices' (thanks for the warm welcome guys); Having just stumbled dazed out of the disinformation/misinformation minefield that 'is' collecting Randall Made Knives today, I'm hoping not to repeat such mental warfare again anytime soon; not to take oneself to seriously; and a recognition of the quality product represented by 'Busse Made Knives'...

(I get the feeling that most folks caught the 'Billy Tran' joke...lol)

The bottom line is that 'Team Busse' and the Busse enthusiast's here seem to be some of the more 'well adjusted' knife enthusiast's on the forums today, and to hear that they may've been taking themselves a bit more serious than usual was somewhat disconcerting... *add requisite smily face icon here*

Wow, 12 inch Taliwhacker's? Damn, I'm in good company then eh? ;)

Mel

Mel, I am relatively new to Busse, just about a year now, and I know what you mean about mis/dis-information. When I first started lurking here and at BusseCombat.com, I was the owner of several assorted blades. After reading and asking some questions of the old timers, I decided to pick up a Steel Heart-E. Now I own nothing but Busse, I use nothing but Busse. Does that mean I think that someone else must do the same or they a snail slime? Hell no. Use what works best for you. I think what some outside our group may interpret as snobbery is just plain old zeal for an awesome product made by a great company headed by a great man. Putting the quality of the product aside, I put a lot of stock in customer service and the like. I can't think of the last company I did business with who's Head guy calls me at home on a Sunday afternoon to shoot the bull and answer a few of my questions. I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting Jerry, Jennifer, Kassi, Shaggi and a bunch of the guys here. They are genuine nice folks who have got a snobby bone in their frames. I would say that you would be hard pressed to find a big group of folks who take themselves less seriously than we do collectively. I can personally promise that if you ask me for help, I sure as hell won't be looking down upon you as I try to help as much as I can. I make that promise becuase that is how I have been treated by everyone here. Welcome Mel and enjoy the ride, you knife collecting habits will never be the same.

So, I was a bit taken back when a knowledgeable knife friend, and fellow Busse owner, mentioned today that he thought the Busse group over at BFC were becoming just another group of 'My knife is better than your knife' snobs...
Just about every brand seems to have its "champions" for one reason or another, and there are always going to be some people who make up impossible stories for whatever reason, and others who believe them. It's true of other brands, and it's true of Busse.
Some people just blindly point to the brand, ignoring what a knife may be intended for, too.
I wouldn't call all that normal, but have seen it happen enough times.
Maybe that's what your friend is talking about(?).

Anyhoo, you guys collect some of the best/cleanest 'hard use' fixed blades available...that should be enough, right?
I don't collect them, and don't need alot of them, but tend to be hard on tools, and frequently end up doing things that involve heavy use, or require improvising when there really isn't a proper knife or other tool for the job, and you "do what you can, with what you have".
There's a Busse in my truck, and a couple more in the house. I don't usually carry one, but there's always one nearby, and that's what I ALWAYS grab when "the going gets tough", and they get put through things that I simply could not, or would not do with most other knives. And they take it. Over and over again.
That's what I bought them for, and for me...yeah, that's "enough";)

I have found that IMHO the Busse forumites and the Himalayan Imports forumites are the two most friendly, and least serious (read, don't take themselves sereously) groups of folks out there.
I think that what some may mistake for snobbishness, is that there are a lot of "inside" jokes, aimed usually at each other. These jokes make sense to the regulars that frequent the site enough to understand the running dialoge. A visitor might totally miss the meaning of a statement because of a double meaning that was slipped in that only a very few catch. This is a what I consider a large extended family, with lots of inside jokes at each others expense, because they all know each other so well. I can't remember ever hearing the regulars here ever badmouthing anyone elses work, they just all love Jerry and Jennefers work and attitude towards knives and people in general. I like it here because I don't like people that take themselves too seriously.:D

Jeez, PorkAngel! You may as well tell them about the secret handshake while you're at it!

Some people... some people. :p :D

I really like it here.

I'm relatively new to the Busse crowd, but I've never felt so welcome to a new group as I have to this crew. I really feel like I'm well on my way to hogdom (and just wait til after Blade. ;) )

We're not snobs here. We're just fascinated by quality. I guarentee that if some knife company made some knives out of a revolutionary new steel that could outperform INFI, about 70% of the folks here would pick one up, if only just to gawk at and put in a safe.

Oh, and Jerry's just crazy enough to be a truly interesting guy.

Busse in the field (mountains,deserts,plains)
Murray Carter in the kitchen.
Benchmade and Case in my pocket.
Ok I'm a snob, and I think my knives are better than other peoples'
Knives.
You got A problem with that.
To bad, learn to deal with it, I have

hey everybady! In the jangles of vietnam we use Busse blades to cut up mankeys. we lick to praty out here!

A little billy tran humor for those who remember...

I don't consider myself a "snob" of any kind. I just look for the best value in everything I own. Is $350 a lot to pay for a knife? On my budget, hell yeah! but.... if it's a Battle Mistress, you really only need one, and if it breaks, just send it in and get a new one.

So for $350, you end up with a knife that not only looks great , but is tough as nails and should last a lifetime. Now that's value! I don't look down my nose at anyone - I just like my Busse knives a lot and I'm proud to own the select few that I do.

Two things attracted me to Busse....the design and the warranty. The designs are near flawless, and the warranty is. Recently a REALLY FAT AD was introduced. I won't be buying one for two reasons. First, Busse already offers a much thinner version that cuts better. Second, if I ever break this thinner version it will be replaced, no questions asked. That is why I buy Busse Combat and nobody else since my first.
