Do I need a Shaman in my life?

I've discovered I'm not a fan of the compression lock from spyderco. It's a great lock, it's just not for me. That's the reason I don't own one because it's roughly a larger native 5, which I love. How I haven't owned a native chief yet is beyond me except they were launched in black G10 and I'm tired of black G10. I think the rex 45 version sold out too fast and I haven't really looked too hard for a different color recently.

And as I say that, there was apparently a recent exclusive release in my favorite color, orange with black blade. It's on the way.

Normally, the military is my large folder of choice.

I canceled my Cru-carta sprint run preorder at the last minute, because I realized I don't need one. I would like a Shaman with a backlock as much or more as I would like a Manix 2 with one, but since I can't have them, I am content with my CBBL Manix 2 in S110V and other non-spy knives with similar attributes. C'est la vie.
+1. I would be all over a shaman with a back lock!!!

One reason I never looked too hard at a Shaman is that it has a pretty tall blade over it's full length. I find myself making curved cuts in tough media often so that kind of blade may just not be for me.

The other reason is, frankly, I'm not putting anything called a shaman in my pocket. It would be great to see Spyderco change the name of this model.

Things to consider...

Your forum name is "Bloodloss," and you're touchy about "Shaman"?

Yeah.
Bloodloss isn't meant to suggest anything violent or sinister, although I guess it does suggest something graphic. I suppose some people pick a forum name that means something to them. I see Bloodloss fitting for me in that; I currently have a health condition that requires me to drain a lot of blood. When chasing whitetails with leaves still on the trees and being unable to see exactly what happened, there's something exciting about walking up on the site of the shot and seeing the evidence of a good hit, bloodloss. When Christ completed his work by going to the cross, that's essentially what Satan suffered, a bloodloss. Also, I'll admit, I can't even count how many times I've accidentally cut myself with a knife.

Since I went a little off topic, I'll give another reason I don't consider the Shaman. I prefer folders with at least 3.5" of cutting edge.

^^No worries, Blood. I was just kiddin' ya. Stay well. :)

P.S. I thought I preferred knives with 3.5+ in. cutting length, but lately the smaller ones are winning me over. ;)

Most spyderco folders do not have a cutting edge of 3.5" or longer due to the finger choil. Your choices are quite limited if you stick to the brand.

Love the Shaman. I would like the handle a tid more grippy but the handle fits my XL hands really well. Apparantly knife size isn't an issue with me. I'm 6'4" and 240 pounds so the size of the knife isn't all that important. I carry everything from a Yojumbo to a UKPK.

So let me get this straight... You are asking a gang of enablers on a knife forum if you need to buy a quality knife from a great manufacturer?

Obviously, the answer is "yes". Seeing those pictures from winnerone23 winnerone23 , you'll probably want to get Micarta scales for it too.

Sal is right about size considerations but honestly, I like having different knives for different things. I feel like it's worth having a large and/or extra-large slot in the EDC rotation even if most days just pull from the medium or small slots. There are days and activities where a larger or heavier knife makes sense and you'll be ready for them.

What are even the 5" Cold Steel folders if a Shaman is EXTRA large?
